Wow thats a breed I've not heard of before but just clicked on the link - what stunning dogs!

Hi,

Yup, my Little Red is a Eurasian.

Not a breed I set out to own, but one I was aware of as having always owned Siberian Huskies I had a passing interest in the Eurasians as the initial Programe was to recreate The Siberian Laika (which I was interested in... but only in so far as being interested in all "Northern Breeds" and Spitz breeds)

She's a pleasure to own, a take anywhere dog with a 'bombproof' personality on Bonfire night she sat in the garden with me and Wolfie watching the fireworks.

She came to me as a Rescue, having been given back to her breeder, and was in a sorry little state not wormed, matted coat.... (and Im such a sucker for a lame duck..in fact that will probably be my affix Layme Dux!! ;))

A definate 'companion' dog as she's been bred to be..but not clingy I was surprised at how independant she can be!
I thought she would be a good balance to the Husky as apparently the Eurasian has no hunting instinct.... ahem!!!!!.... She spend hours under the sheds catching mice, pounces and plays with the feild mice on walks in a cat like way (very similar to the Sibe) and often comes back with birds and baby bunnies. On the hunt she will not be called off!! (The sibe comes back before her!! now thats saying something)

Extremely placid around the house, and a quiet dog...only barking when absolutely nescessary and for a little thing she gives a deep bark of which you would think came from a mucccch bigger dog!

I'd highly recommend them! (as long as they are well bred)

Lovely dogs,  am I right in saying they are a fairly new breed.?
- By Missie Date 21.01.08 20:58 UTC
Apparently the Eurasier was developed in Germany in 1960.  Originally a combination of Chow Chow and Wolf Spitz.  The dog produced was then called a Wolf Chow.  In 1972 the Samoyed was introduced and the name Eurasier was established for the breed.
(from  http://members.shaw.ca/EdelweissEurasiers/history.htm )

Agree, they are lovely dogs :-)
- By Lilly [gb] Date 22.01.08 20:36 UTC
Hi

I own some eurasiers and they are a lovely breed, certain things about them vary a little , like the hunting instict (some have more than others). Also how openly friendly they are , some are happy to talk to every one all the time and others are not fussed at all and will take or leave people they dont know.
But most of all they are fun, playful and very loving with family.
i think some one all ready posted a link for The Eurasier Club UK www.theukeurasierclub.co.uk
this club have walks and activities that allow people to meet up socially, whether you own a eurasier or just want to meet one.

I know eurasiers that are in agility, obedience ,show and others that visit hospitals and old peoples homes. in all these activities the eurasier does well because they are doing what the love best acompanying thier family in an activity!

Very impressed with the photo of Little Red.  What a super looking dog.
- By ClaireyS Date 23.01.08 09:57 UTC
A friend at works mother in law has one, its very snappy, goes for people and children for no reason.  Unfortunately I think its the owners fault rather than the dogs and I dont believe she does much about it.
- By Lilly [gb] Date 23.01.08 12:36 UTC
Hi ClaireyS

that's a shame :-( this breed need sto be around people and socialized.
It surprising how many people don't socializes their dogs.

from the sounds of it this dog rules the house, I dont think its a socialising thing, the dogs just needs to know its place.
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 23.01.08 14:59 UTC
I have to admit the only one i have met was the same, again this may be down to wrong owners for this breed of dog.
- By Lilly [gb] Date 23.01.08 18:34 UTC
Could the dog you are both talking about be the same one?
Eurasiers can be strong willed but normally they won't to please .
Basic discipline can work very well. Mine are all different but none have ever snapped at any one.
I think that's good considering I had to import some of my Eurasiers on pet passport and so they did not move to the UK until they were 11 months old.
My male "Evert"  was 5 when I imported him and he is a big softy!
They love the sofa :-) and play well with my brothers children.
But i suppose as with any breed you can have a line or an owner that is not so good.
- By BERRY1 [gb] Date 23.01.08 20:49 UTC
I met one about 4 years ago , only by chance . The girl who owned her saw me with my huskies and started chatting to me and telling me that her dog was an Eurasier and that they cost a £1000. I thought she was pulling my leg as it looked like a chow cross to me even having a purple tongue. Anyway she caught up with me again one day telling me her dog was in season and if she sent me a vile would i fill it with dog seman and she would give me £250 . I was horrified , could not believe what she wanted me to do (in every way ) and scuttled off thinking i had met a mad woman on leave from the hospital .   LOL .   I can't believe that their is a breed called that (i know now having  looked) i really thought she was making it up.
- By HuskyGal Date 23.01.08 22:45 UTC

>she sent me a vile<

ROFL!!!!!! sorry! apt mistake *chuckles!!* :-D :-D
- By BERRY1 [gb] Date 23.01.08 23:03 UTC

- By madogz77 Date 24.01.08 11:18 UTC
for lilly: not sure about the eurasiers, but the boy of your 'other breed' is darn handsome!!!

but i could be biased....!!!!
- By Chrisy [gb] Date 24.01.08 11:26 UTC
Hi,
Thanks for that, they do look nice. Did I get it right been around since 1960? How long have they been in England. Will look out for them at discover dogs at Crufts. :-)
Chrisy
- By ClaireyS Date 24.01.08 11:27 UTC
I dont think they are KC registered so wont be at discover dogs.
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 24.01.08 11:29 UTC
Euraisers are KC registered :-D
- By ClaireyS Date 24.01.08 13:26 UTC
really ?? I thought they were a cross breed !  are they on the import register then? I dont think ive ever seen one at a show.  (to be fair im not sure what one looks like though !!)
- By Malakai [gb] Date 24.01.08 13:33 UTC
It must be 4 or 5 years since Eurasiers have been at Discover Dogs because I made a point of leaving my pooches with Hubby and seeking them out and it was their first year there :-)
- By ClaireyS Date 24.01.08 14:11 UTC
but are they actually shown ?

I know what breed im thinking of now, its not the Eurasier, its the northern inuit - der der !!

Still dont think ive ever seen a Euraiser at a show, will have to see if I can find time to visit them at discover dogs.
- By Malakai [gb] Date 24.01.08 15:31 UTC
Yes, they are shown. They were put onto the import register in October 2003 and I can find champ show placings for them :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.01.08 15:52 UTC
I'm firmly holding my hands over the Elkhounds ears, but if they had been around when I lost by Belgian shepherd I might have gone for this breed instead.
- By Lori Date 24.01.08 16:01 UTC
Barbara I'm shocked! The girls are packing their bags now. :D I spent a load of time with them at Discover Dogs/Crufts. My first dog was a Keeshond so I'm a little partial to their general appearance. What nice dogs.

Hi madogz77
Thank you ,His name is Hagar and he is a big soft baby.
He has sired some litters and 1 litter was for Canine Partners and they all went into training, they are due to graduate soon.

Other than that he can jump for England lol.
i love the golden colour more than cream, but when he was a pup he was very light compared to now he is getting darker by the year!
- By madogz77 Date 24.01.08 16:58 UTC
"Other than that he can jump for England lol"

hiya stacey - hope he's being a good boy still!
holly send bick sloppy licks! x
- By Lilly [gb] Date 24.01.08 17:06 UTC
Hi yes Eurasiers can be shown their first show (on import register) was Leeds 22nd 2006 and Albionspitz Aerandir was Best of Breed, since then at most Champ shows Eurasier have attended and have consistently won best of breed awards and Best Puppy.
The only thing is we cannot go for group :-( i have shown abroad a lot as it lets me compare my dogs against lot's of other Eurasiers under judges that know the breed and are breed specialists.
I'm happy to say we have done well but most of all its fun meeting up with every one we know.
For the last 4 year we have attended the Swedish Specialty show and then you get to see about 100 Eurasier from many places .
- By Lilly [gb] Date 24.01.08 17:10 UTC
Madog77

i did not click :-) see i should look who i am talking to before i write ,lol.
yes he did inherit it from her as he can jump 4 foot from standing and higher if he has a run up.
plus he lays on the sofa on his back , i see him when i come in the house some times.
Topic Dog Boards / General / Eurasiers is that a new breed.?
