Um, please tell me that a heron can' t take a hen?! The wretched thing comes and nicks our goldfish, it even got one through the net once, but what am I meant to do if it starts getting the hens?! The hen run will have to end up looking like Fort Knox!

No, an attack by herons on adult hens (baby chicks, maybe) is unheard of by bird experts.

My chickens all run indoors when a buzzard flies over so maybe they take chickens. It landed in the back garden once but luckily they were all ok.

Yes, buzzards are birds of prey and will definitely take a chicken if they can - or a rabbit, or a guinea pig, or any unguarded small furry.

We used to feed the foxes, when we left the house with carrier bags they would be walking behind us, much to my delight as i am so scared of them. I no there more scared of me!!!!
Best looking foxes around,Then the badgers started eating there food and getting a bit close for confort so now we feed them but chuck the food in the woodland area

Truly a beautiful graceful animal, smart too but I wouldn't feed them or have them anywhere near my property.  I think the greatest gift I can give to a fox as a wild animal is not to encourage them to come anywhere near man.

My sister took her young son down to collect the eggs last night. Somehow (still not sure how yet) a fox got in and killed 25 of her 30 chickens. The remaining 5 will probably die from shock within the next few days. My poor nephew had to see the carnage that was left behind and now the chickens have had to be burnt as burying them would only encourage them back for more. A fox also attacked her cat .Luckily the cat crawled home and had to have a leg amputated. I'd question any one of you that feeds foxes to see the mess it causes and think again. I agree foxes are beautiful creatures but they are wild animals and shouldn't be encouraged.

It depends where you live!  :)

True, where you are does make quite a big difference :-)  But there are lots of other factors to consider - for example if you move;even if you are not feeding the fox enough to live on, it will get used to you substituting the diet and rely on it. The new people may not like it;may have rabbits/chickens etc. My sister lives in the middle of nowhere and the fox is brave enough to go near the farm and house. They clearly dont need much encouragement. Little bug*er :-)
