Hi, I am due to collect my newfoundland puppy soon and wondered if anyone could give me suggestions as to daily feeding plans for the raw food diet for large puppies.
Thanks Helen
Speak to your breeder. I'm sure he/she will give you all the info you need. If you're breeder does not feed raw then personally I would keep puppy on the food your breeder recommends until he has settled into his new home. I switched straight onto raw feeding with both of my dogs once they had settled in.
I would also recommend reading some books on the barf diet.
Good luck. I would never go back to feeding a kibble based diet now. I'm sure its easier and less messy sometimes. But I love the condition my two danes are from being raw fed.
thanks, fortunately the breeder does feed raw tho I think she uses frozen but definitely a start in the right direction, am just a little nervous because of the rapid growth rate, have just got hold of grow your pup on bones tho as you suggest and everything is becoming a lot clearer, so thanks again, helen

I fed my puppy raw as soon as he came home, his breeder fedraw too, but because all the pups were going to have different feeding regimes she fed them part raw part pet food. I was going to do the same but my pup soon told me what he preferred by leaving any pet food and picking out the raw, so within 2 weeks he was fed completly raw.

Hi
Are you a member of the yahoo group BritBarf? If not, it may be worth joining as there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on there with all varieties of breeds.
Unfortunately I did not take the plunge so to speak with raw feeding for my new labrador pup who is now nearly 7 months old and am feeding her hopefully a good quality kibble untill she has finshed growing. I suppose I was abit anxious over the subject with a pup so young with all the problems that these dogs can get with hips etc.
I do feed barf to one of my other dogs though due to the fact she has anal gland problems and this kind of diet seem to be holding it a bay with less trips to the vet, and she seems to be doing very well on it.
I will probably change the pup over to it at a later date

If you want to feed raw probably the most easily accessible and simple book on this is Ultimate Nutrition for dogs and cats by Kymythy Schulze, easily available here, then the BARF diet by Ian Billingshurst.
