Hi everyone, long time no speak!

Thought I'd come on here to get the much needed advice. I fed both of my dogs on Autarky Mature Light Autumn Years (they're both Siberian Huskies) and they both loved it, looked brilliant on it, weight was perfect, great poo - you name it, in my opinion it was the dog's doo-dahs. But, my stockist that I used to collect it from (a garden centre of all places) have now stopped stocking it and they can no longer specially order it in! I've rang around every pet shop in the area (which isn't many as I live in the middle of nowhere) and none of them can order it in either.

So I decided to have a good look on the internet and the only prices I could find for Autarky (including P&P) were at least double the price of what I was paying beforehand by picking it up from the garden centre. Now, to me, it kinda defeats the object of being able to get hold of it for £15 some places but having to pay nearer £30 to have it delivered - hope this is making sense!

Anyway, with the dogs' eyes hanging out at being fed on Arden Grange for now I have ordered some Royal Canin as a fix until I can find something I would prefer feeding to them.

Sure, there's loads of options in the pet shops but I want a good quality food with the same nutritional value as Autarky for roughly the same price. I mean, why should I have to pay nearer £40 for a food that supposedly does exactly the same as the VAT free one? I really do not want to give Iams/Eukanuba the time of day, nor Pedigree, Bakers, Burns, Hills, Purina or JWB. Not only is it personal values, my two have either done rubbish on them or refused to eat it, and they're not actually that fussy!

If anyone has any ideas then please let me know asap. Just worth mentioning, that I don't work either of the boys and they're both adults (one edging on the senior side, in state and mind :D )#

Cheers, Keira

You can contact Dodsen & Horrel for stockist information.

Near me it is stocked by a Horse feed merchant and Jollyes.  It is under £15 at the Horse feed place and about £18 at Jollyes.

I used to fee the adult formula as it stopped my Tula's indigestion.  She is now gone so I feed the Arden grange adult to mine as I prefer the higher protein and fat levels for their coat and muscle condition.

If you go on the breeders scheme the adult versions are around the £21 mark.  I am lucky as my friend goes to the wholesalers and the Lamb is often on special offer and she gets it for me for about £18.   It is a very good food for those prices, and I think retail costs nearer £30 a bag.

If you have a Costco near you they stock Autarky for something like £11 a bag.

This may help, and if it doesn't give them a ring, they hav a mail order service - or is that what takes the price way up ?

I notice they've put the price up to £19.50 on the website now.

Thanks for the replies! Sadly we don't have a Costco near us, never even heard of it until a minute ago so had a search and we don't have one locally. A bit like Jollyes, it would take an hours drive to get to our nearest one. If I did do that I would end up going in there and spending far too much on useless things for the dogs and probably forgetting the food. Bad idea!

Dill, I did try the mail order service, even though they have knocked their price up. The stockists listed when I put in my info are MILES away and when I rang the mail order service line, it went straight to answering machine. I've left two messages since and nothing back yet so it looks like the boys may have to stick to the new bag of Royal Canin being delivered this week. Shame really that Autarky isn't more widely stocked because to me, it's a great food!

Keira have you looked here They are very good and delivery is reasonable, in that its the same for two bags as it is for one.

Hi satincollie. That seems to be the most reasonable price so far! Thanks for the link!

Hi Keira
Surprised you haven't gone down the 'raw' route yet :)

Not enough time for that Kat plus Alpha gets the squits from raw bones, let alone a raw diet!!
