Can anyone recomend anything to give a 4-5 month old puppy for travel sickness? We are going to Ireland in October and have a VERY long drive. he has been sick once in the car and think this journey may be interesting ;) Any advice willl be helpful.

Laura, Try Sea Legs for children. They have always worked very well, without dog becoming sleepy

Yes, sealegs are good, Cava was sick quite often and as we don't have a car he only went in one occassionally for shows etc so had no chance to become accustomed to car. I never fed him or just few biscuits a good bit before journey. As an aded bonus he has stopped being sick and went from Fort William to Fife this summer with no prob. I have also used ginger capsules for a previous dog and found them good but you need to build up in system by giving in run up to journey

Hi Laura
Have heard (but not personally tried) that Ginger Biscuits are good for doggy travel sickness.

My friend has tried this and swears by it! ;)

I tried ginger biscuits once, then had ginger sick in the cage :)
Sealegs seemed to have the desired effect though.

Someone on this board a while ago said sit the dog on newspaper. I had tried everything even anti vomit tablets from the vet and tried the newspaper trick thinking what a load of rubbish. Two hours into the trip no sick!!!!!!!!!!
I will keep testing this method and if it continues to work, then it suits me.

Hi Nicola
It was me who said sit them on a newspaper. My old grandmother said this years ago as a remedy for car sick people. I tried it on my dogs about 20 years ago and have used it ever since.
Dont know why it works, someone else said it might be the fumes off the print. If the dog is still sick when sitting on newspaper at least its handy for ease of cleaning. I also found that sitting the dog on the floor of the car like in the front passengers footwell helps. Maybe becayse it cant see out, or a lower centre of gravity.
All the best Mick

Our Cocker is really sick if she's in her crate in the boot of our Vectra Estate so she's now kept down by my feet and she's a lot better.
No more sick, and a lovely warm foot rest :D

Hi, we are going to Kerry, South West Ireland. We are going from Fishguard to Rosslare, which is a journey of 3 1/2 hours. there are several different crossings, even an overnight one, but this is not recomended for dogs, as they are not allowed on deck. I booked with UK and emerald Cottage Holidays, 01756 702259. Loads of their cottages allow pets. hope this helps.

I think some people cover the cage so the dog can't see out. Maybe it's the other way to us, where we like to see the horizon otherwise we feel sick.
Not heard the about paper one though. Obviously the dog doesn't read it, 'cos that always makes me feel ill.

My nan always swore by brown paper. Will try Barney on the newspaper next time but even when he is not sick he dribbles buckets. Any tips anyone to stop him dribbling?
