Lol :-) This tickled me....
In my 13 years with BA as Cabin Crew then as an Emergency procedures Instructor, some of the best crew I ever worked with were those that had 'cut their teeth' in the Budget Airlines.
Wether I was teaching Fire fighting on board and throwing the crew into our smoke chamber, or throwing them into Feltham swimming pool and into Life Rafts..or in our Big Simulators at cranebank throwing them down the slides... age figured little in the competency!! sometimes the most dynamic and situationally aware crew members were the youngest....
(Actually..because of Elf&Safety we could no longer throw them down and allow the crew to jump and slide in their training they had to sit and slide.. not very indicative)
Before we had the new Uniform (circa 2004) Our uniform was for summer a long silky (synthetic skirt) winter short woollen skirt..... Imagine the friction caused by 100 pax going down a slide before you (we train crew to never touch the slide you jump and cross your arms over your chest) so if it takes the skin off your hand imagine what it does to your nylon clad legs!!!??
Oh how I ENVIED Easyjet etc with their trousers!!!
And remember... you get a cheap ticket because those Not 'proper' crew members have to dress and clean that aircraft... we at BA picked up our bags and cases and left to swan off to our hotel!! we had cleaners come on board..so didnt need to have a more casual yet comfortable uniform! I would imagine if I had to do all my duties and then clean the whole aircraft in 10 mins before the next lot of passengers arrived and never get off my aircraft ALL day..I'd want a cotton breathable polo shirt and durable trousers like Easy Jet.
:-D
Incidentally within the Industry Easy Jet has one of the BEST safety training teams and invest much more money than other Airlines in it...
