I have just had my driving license and bought a car :).
I know nothing about car insurances!
There seems to be hundreds of companies doing them!

Does anybody have any tips of what companies I should try?
Who did you get a best deal with?

What about doing Passplus?
Does anybody know if that really make difference in the insurance price?
Most companies when you fill in the quotes do not have an option in saying you have done it...(I haven't yet but am thinking of doing it)

LV

Gave me the cheapest quote by far when I went through insurancesupermarket.  Fully comp on my Doblo MPV came in at £109 for the year!

I wish mine came to something little over £100...
At the moment cheapest I have found is £762!!(my other half as second driver)

We've just been looking as well for a 33 year old new driver.  Direct Line was the best we've found at £415.

Edited to add, it's worth trying Confused.com, and Moneysupermarket, much easier than trawling through loads of companies individually.

Good luck.

I joined a site called quidco  www.quidco.co.uk
Then I went through their insurance companies and not only did i get an cracking
fully comp insurance from Lloyds but i also got £90 back (well it comes back in 2 months)
sent to my bank account.

I do tons of shopping using quidco and get loads back simply by going through their link.

I passed my test a few years ago and being a tad older than 17 I expected to get quite cheap insurance but it is extortionate.  I was quoted between 600-1500 for a group 3 car (honda jazz) although after a year it went down to approximately 350 and stayed there last year too.  I went with quinn direct who are Irish and quite basic but 1/3 of the price of the dearer ones.

if you live in the sticks and have the "right" postcode....then can rate the NFU high enough especailly when it comes to service and claims.

Try Sheila's Wheels, they gave me a quote £200 under the others, plus Id only had insurance aweek and some daft woman at work crashed into my car in the carpark!!
The service was excellent and they offered me a hire car the day after, which was like for like in guise of a brand new shogun!! was great
Also the customer service is good, think based in scotland so get a happy jock to talk to instead of some Indian callcentre

Thank you everybody!
I have spend 2 nights checking quotes and so far the cheapest is M&S insurance and I have to say their insurance cover is very good!
Tesco's basic quote is not the cheapest but comes out as the Cheapest as they do -40% for Pass Plus!!
With Pass Plus Tescos is about £200 less than the cheapest ones I have found!! Close to £600 instead of the £800+ others have been...

I have to try the companies for women, have not tried those yet!

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/

"martins money saving expert"  gives  advice on how to find the best insurance quote.  There is a way to use the comparision sites to get the best deal and it tells you which order ect to search them to get the best quote

havent tried it yet myself but will do when my car insurance is due later in the year

I found More Than cheaper this year, downside being the Indian call centre, the previous 2 years I was with Diamond, who were based in Cardiff so I still struggled with the accent !! (no offence meant to anyone, im just rubbish with accents !!)
