Hello

I was wondering if anyone could calm my nerves a bit.

I took my bitch to the vets today for a general preg check up. she would be 6 weeks tomorrow.

I was really excited to go as i was hoping to have the preg confirmed as she is showing loads of signs; had a kind of morning sicknes, that the vet said was usual and quite common, has been eating more the last few days which again the vet said was a sign, she has huge nipples and she is getting tired easily. again the vet said all this was very common signs of preg.
But, she was unable to feel anything. siad she thought she was quite distended but wasnt able to feel any pups.

I have been booked in for a scan on thursday as i am really worried it is a phantom preg.

does anyone have experience of a mated bitch which has been shown to have a 'distended abdomen' and what it could mean? could it be that the vet just missed them as they are still small?

my girl is a small breed but not toy, are they difficult to palpate?

any advice would be really good as i am so worried.

My Mentor lives some miles away so i cant ask her to visualy check for me and she says that i should have the scan but not to worry, but i am!

thank you

Kate,

I would not be too worried at this stage, manual palpitation at this stage of pregnancy is very difficult, wait for the scan and I am sure that all will be fine. Good Luck

I find it much easier when my girls are 7 weeks gone.  So don't be too disappointed that palpitation showed nothing at this stage.  Fingers crossed for you.

Hello thank you for the replies

I was too impatient so managed to get her to be scanned today and yes, she is most definatly expecting !

I am so pleased and my hubby has just got home with the wood to make a lovely whelping box!

I have a picture of the scan which is being proudly shown to all!

So pleased for you Kate.  Exciting isn't it?  I always find the wait so hard.  My girl whelped an hour ago!!!  And I feel that I have waited yonks to see these babies.  Got what I wanted too, as the litter is for me to show.  One girl, one boy, just what I wanted!  Can't stop grinning!
