A slide show tribute it's very moving & there's a collie in the slide show that is marked like my Wukee with lots of mottling(like his big sister Jessie has):eek:

It also has the story of the 9/11 dog shot dead by the police whilst he was back doing his normal duties-The police officers concerned used 18 rounds & also one assaulted his handler ! The dog was wearing his police ID which is visible-a newspaper got hold of the video evidence :eek::eek::eek:

What a tragedy, that poor dog. I'm not sure you can blame the policemen though, they arrived on scene to find a dog 'attacking' a young girl. Even after he'd been shot he still help on to her leg, as he had been trained to do, presumably that's why they shot him so many times :(

The Police Video(which they said they didn't have at first)clearly shows the dog's distinctive Police ID from where the camera was & the police were nearer, to say they thought it was a stray is too absurd to believe, the one who hit the handler had no excuse either

How awful, that poor dog especially as it states that she had no injuries

Shame that they couldn't of had something bigger, say some kind of coat or a mark on the dog for other police members to know???

Yes, something similar to a racing jacket would stop this from happening in future. The badge on his collar could easily have been overlooked in the heat of the moment, and unfortunately they wouldn't know till after the dog was dead that the girl wasn't injured. Anybody who has seen a police dog demo will know how scary they can look hanging onto someone...and this was a 12 year old girl. I think it's a tragedy :(

unfortunatly I feel it was the order that the handler was sent AWAY from the dog that killed the dog,
If there was a blanket rule that an owner and the dog should be treated as one, as in the dog goes in one direction and so does the owner and visa versa than this would never hgave happened.
RIP
Lea.

The ID badges are quite big(not just a dog tag sized one)& if you look at the dogs on the slide show you can see the SARD & other dogs ID's quite clearly

They said the dog had no collar on at first  then totally changed their story as for assaulting a fellow officer doG knows how they got away with that perhaps they didn't notice his uniform or maybe they thought he was a "vagrant"
