i am very pleased with myself, i think ive finished another chunk of my dissertation(1st draft at least)- i've written about 2000 words today. just so everyone can look at me like i'm a total mentalist im doing "a critical discourse analysis of the role and perception of women in ancient greek drama", and i've done my first draft of the analysis of Antigone all today, phew. sorry, feeling smug. (and less guilty about taking a trip in the middle if term, not i just need to keep it up)

lol, one of my concerns. plus they need to be as impartial and accademic as poss, couldn't have done it :rolleyes:. was thinking of discussing moral and media panics and how this led to the (i think hasty and haphazzard) construction of the act but i couldn't have kept myself in check...

Hmmmm   you're right, it would be really difficult to remain objective and not get emotionally involved with a subject like that.  Shame, there's plenty of material there for discussion and you wouldn't have been short of reference material either ;)

Never mind you've nearly broken the back of this.  Don't forget the appendix etc will take up some of the word count ;)

i don't think we count them actually , but i'm more worried about going over my word count actually i've already got 3500 ish, i'm doing approz 1000 for my methodology, 4000 for my analysis, then another 1500 conclusion so should work out ok (i hope). what i'm doing the analysis is quite easy, i'm looking at four plays, i quote bits and then i discuss how this can be classed as mysogenist. the idea is that our history effects our present culture, if i can prove that women were poorly regarded back then it would go to explaining why women are still fighting for equal rights now. (thats the theory anyway)

Maybe different colleges/unis work differently ?

Mine were counted (many years ago),  SIL is finishing her Masters this summer and hers are counted ;)  but my Neice doesn't even have to do a dissertation for her degree - just a project   she's only done two essays in 3 years!!!!! - I did the wrong course LOL

god sounds like i did to. i've 4 pieces of coursework and my diss this semester. last semester i had the dissertaion and 4 or 5 pieces (can't recall), hopefully be worth it though!
