Topic Dog Boards / General / Kennels vs dog passports
- By murphy999 Date 10.01.08 17:37 UTC
Hi
We are hoping to go to the South of France in the Summer hols, I was wondering if anyone can let me know approx how much it would be to put my two dogs in kennels for three weeks.
Don't know if it makes any difference, one is a tibetan terrier & the other a tt cross.
They have never been in kennels before, as they always come caravanning with us.
The other option we have is to take them with us, get them a passport etc.
I am trying to work out which option would be best for dogs & us, advice appreciated.

Hi
If you're going to get pets passports, you're a bit late for the summer so would have to hurry. The entire process takes 7 months from start to finish, so if you started tomorrow, the dogs would not be ready to go (or rather, they could LEAVE the country, but not come BACK to the UK until all was ready) -until middle of August. I have just pet passported two of my dogs and the total cost was around £150 per dog.

Kennel costs vary, and I'm unsure as I never use kennels myself (too many dogs!) but we have a boarding kennel half a mile from us and they charge £8 per dog per day, regardless of size of dog. I know others charge according to size, and many will give a discount for two.

I have just found out that my puppy failed her titre test.  I am really cross as I had the blood taken in September,a nd having heard nothing just popped in and asked for the Passport to be completed.  they told me they would get the Vet to ring me,a and it turns out they forgot to ring me that the bloods had failed.  so I have to go in Monday for another Rabies jab and another one 21 days later and then have another titre test done.

We have put Misty into 2 different kennels before (GR) and it was £11 or £12 per day.  They also offered a discount for more than one dog.  If you do use kennels enquire if they charge for the day you pick them up, as if I picked up by 9.30 am, I didnt get charged for that day. I have used one kennel that charged regardless of when you arrived.
