I think you will find many urban puppy farms, though the isolation of a rural environment makes the puppy farmer less visible or should I say hearable.

Unfortunately the commercial production of companion animals is seen by the authorities as a perfectly legitimate business.

Most good breeders will contend that you cannot breed and rear (emphasis on rearing and socialising) puppies commercially as they require a lot of time, and this cannot be done on a wholesale basis with lots of litters at any time, and you cannot make money if you do everything in the best way.  Choice of breeding animals health testing proving their quality by showing and working etc.

So commercial breeding can only produce substandard under socialised pets.  though sadly many one off litters bred by people without the knowledge and care required can produce just as poor quality, and not be breeding commercially.

Ive not been on the forum long but my eyes are certainly being open to all the scams ,puppy farming, loop holes etc its really appauling and im quite horrified at what some people will do or get away with ,i live on a farm and do breed an occasional litter and i mean occasional and i find it a great place to rear and socialise them we have all sorts of machinery, tractors etc people coming and going all the time, usually they have dogs too, sheep ,chickens and loads of room for them to tear about but it could very easily be used for puppy "farming" sorry im not keen on this expression  probably because we are proper  farmers (ie livestock) !!!! these people give Farmers a bad name as well because if you tell people your pups are farm reared do people think youre a "puppy" farmer???!!!! Now im getting paranoid  and confused its just seems so awful, sorry for the rant

I would use the term home reared in the country, not farm reared, as that makes them sound like livestock, and of course livestock are not bred or reared to live closely with humans in their homes.
