Hello on a lighter note........

My baby boy is coming home soon and I wondered, he will be sleeping downstairs with my other gorgeous cavvy....would you leave them together or leave them in the same room with the new baby in a crate shut (except for night time toilets of course!).

Our exisiting boy is sooooooo soft so I have no worries there!

Warm congratulations on your new boy:cool:
I think its a suck it and see situation. See how they get on through the day, I bought a baby listening plug in thingie and never slept a wink the first night, but I knew that all was well. Good luck with him, what are you going to call him?

We aren't sure on a name yet....but we are absolutely bursting with excitement!

Hi and congrats! Did you go for 'the' pup in the end then? When we first got Alfie, we had him securely in a separate crate at night for the first couple of months. Our Harvey is a big softy and I didn't invisage any problems but.......when Alfie came along Harvey was utterly disgusted with us for bringing this mad fluff ball into his home and sulked for a good few days - wouldn't even look at us or Alfie let alone have him anywhere near him:eek: I was so upset and thought life would never be the same again but they soon learned to love each other. Also Alfie loved to dangle off the end of Harvey's ears etc so it was best to keep them separate whenever I was unable to supervise for the sake of Harvey's sanity:rolleyes:

when we had our mastiff odin and got kizzy we kept her crated at nights. our previous dog had been attacking odin and we were unsure how he'd react to another dog in the house again. as it turned out she was crated for her sanity as he thought she was the best toy ever!

Yes we are going for the pup we talked about! LOL

I think because our eldest is still young he loves other dogs to play with, its not him being put out that i'm worried with just envisage them wanting to play ALL night!

When we got our pup in April, we kept her in the crate at night, (door closed) but in the same room as our (then) 8 yr old, they were fine and I think the fact that she wasn't alone helped her settle.

My older boy is a super-softy that would never tell a pup off so I put the puppy in a crate for the first month or so. Otherwise she would have tormented him endlessly and kept him awake all night. When she got into the pattern of sleeping or quietly waiting until the alarm went off I left the door open for a week. I had to go back to closing the door once or twice but she learned soon that if she was good she could come and go as she pleased.

Now if I had a pup with Caiomhe (who is 1 YO in a couple days) I could leave it uncrated as she is quite capable of acting every bit like a mom and telling youngsters when they've gone too far. :)

Thanks for all the tips I will crate the new baby until I feel that they won't run around all night then take it from there!
