Went to a dog show today and met 2 mad women ;) ;) ;)!!!!!!!!
Oh and took another one with me ;) ;) !!! LMAO
But I nearly smuggled some dogs out!!!
Number 1 The Beagle!!! Now they just look like pups even when they are older!!!!
Number 2 The Irish Setter. I had forgotten how much I loved looking after the 30 I did when I was 15!!!
Number 3, and this is a shocked me, We stood with one of the mad women   at the Flat coat retreiver ring for a long time. Now I fell in love with them LOL Now I think they look alot like the Irish Setters but black LOL and not as slobbery!!!! LOL
Oh well, LMAO Not getting another dog for a long time LOL

Sorry sorry sorry, I didnt mean anything horrible by it!!!!
They are closer looking to setters than they are to Goldens.
The slimmer body, feathering and slender head and shiny coat reminds me of the setters!!!
I love them both!!!!

Too many these days are slabsided and do resemble black setters, but they should be a solid retriever, though they are slow maturing and young ones can be a bit narrower through.  Should not be racy like an Irish Setter.

Standard says:

Body
Foreribs fairly flat. Body well ribbed up showing a gradual spring and well arched in centre but rather lighter towards quarters. Loin short and square. Open couplings highly undesirable.

that ok,
they are totaly different if you but them next to each other.

when i had my first fcr some one said to me was he a black setter no i reply he a fcr.that over 20 years ago
then i bought a gorden setter when the fcr was 4 years old totaly different in build and of cause the gorden setter has tan markings, and in tempertant as well,

Sorry yes Briedog it probably did come across as I didnt know what I was talking about :eek::eek::eek: Sorry!!!!
I would never call them Black Irish Setters LOL as they are not that similar, but there are some similaritys which is probably why I am drawn to one!!! Before today I had never even considered one LOL

I saw a FCR at an Open Show last week and thought it was too chunky, more than likely it was how they should be?
- By Lea Date 05.01.08 18:35 UTC
Most I saw today were more setter size than lab size. All the same more slender size (and am sure they werent all female as there wee Alot of them!!!!
