In the CM thread a suggestion to use a a Figure of eight head collar was mentioned, saying it is based on T-Touch method.

Is there a good article I can read about this?  I have recently bought what I think is a figure of eight (FOE) and the lead connects behind the head instead of under the chin.

I am using it on two dogs at our rehoming centre and the difference in the calmness of the dogs is amazing. Just putting it on changes them from pulling, leaping and yapping at other dogs ...to calm, loose lead walking and attentive. Also these two dogs would have fought tooth and nail to remove a halti but not this head collar. Once or twice they tried to rub it off the nose...but non of the violence of trying the halti.

So if it has something to do with t-touch and calming I would be VERY interested in readng some articles about the head collars in particular.

could you describe this collar for me? is it the double neck one from cm? or something i dont know about? my dogs wont wear haltis.

Rachel Manns is a T Touch Practitioner & uses the calming bands for OTT barking behaviour.

I have used this and keep it as a back up, but the only down side I found was that as the collar and lead are one, you have to use a separate lead and found this a bit of a hadful.

I have the Black Dog Infin8 head collar and this I find is extremely good for heavy pulling dogs. My only complaint is that you cannot remove the muzzle strap completely which would be very good for when I let my girls off lead to run, I have to take the whole lot of or they could catch their paws/legs or sticks and branches in it.

One thing about them is they are ever so cheap and easy to make which means you can have them in any colour or fabric design you like.

It is made by a lady and she calls it a K-9 bridle.
I really like how it works and as there are no clips or fasteners it is usually on the dog before he has a chance to realize what happened.

Moonmaiden....what brand is the one in the second link of your reply...I like the style of it. Mine are simple woven nylon sort of like puppy collars are made of, great stuff but maybe not as durable as webbing might be...

I use a 'figure of eight' type of head collar on Maddie, it doesn't look like the one in the links though. This is quite awkward to put on, no clips, it goes over the head then you have to pull it up over the nose. I still use her collar and a double ended lead so only use it to stop the pulling. Once on it will stop her from pulling and walking is calmer BUT the ring at the side of her neck just behind the ear gathers her fur and so knots it up to the point that she becomes 'tied' to it :( so every now and then on walks I have to stop and free her fur from the collar.
I've tried  different halti collars, including the gentle leader, and she manages to get out of them so this is the only one that doesn't ride up or slip off. (well it can't, its tied to her ears! )
