I am looking for a new set of clippers, not too heavy, what do you recommend for westies, I dont like them like "skinned rabbits" I like them in a show trim.  At the moment I have Moser Rex, and have had them for years and years.

I like two types.

Moser Max 45s really light no problem at all. Half the weight of the osters. YOu can pick them up reasonably.

Moser Switch Blade. Just got these a few weeks ago and love them also. Happy with the pair of them.

Cheapest company for both types.

blue is right osters are quite heavy and they have these rigdes on the part you hold and gosh dont they hurt your hand after a while, but they are still good clipers

Why not just hand strip?

Some people with a few terriers do a combination of a few things,  thinning ,stripping and clipping.   Irene I think now has Arthritis

I usually use thinning scissors, do not clip much, as Blue said I have arthritis in my neck, arms and hands so, cannot hand strip I cant grip the coat, and cant grip and use stripping blade for long either.  So I am afraid it will be down to clippeers for me for now.  I had looked at Moser Max45 but had not heard any reports on them.  Oster are a no no for me I had them years ago when I was grooming dogs I had bred far too heavy and bulky.

Think I will probably go with the Moser Max45 but what blades do I need to keep the coat not too short really still to the 2" its supposed to be. What are the switchblade ones, not really heard of them.

Thanks for the pm Pam, I had actually been there and noticed that, but I was going to try and wait for the price to come down if you go into the feedback you will see they were selling them a lot cheaper than that LOL !!!!   I am like everyone else, if I can save a few pounds I will.

Sorry! Quite understand! Then would recommend the Moser Arco - very lightweight and cordless, and I think you can add a comb to give a longer cut.

I noticed that after I sent it but still really cheap as they are giving you three blades it normally only comes with 2. The 3 blades are blades I use on various parts of the dog so not a bad deal.  They are very light to use. I have 2 pairs of mosers one is the max 45s and one the swithblade ( you can see them in the first link)   My moser max 45s ae  3 years old and are still going strong no problem at all.

i do hand strip i wouldnt dream of clipping my border terriers but i groom my friends dogs aswell and some of those require clipping due to the breed
