I was supposed to be going on a protest march on Saturday to protest at a local newsagent chain selling fireworks from the 12th September. Our point was that if fireworks have to be on sale there is no need for them to be on sale for such a long period. What do people need to buy them over that length of time for anyway, our local animal charity was organising it and we were going to visit all the shops in Glenrothes.
When the Chair of the charity went into one of the shops today she found the fireworks had gone, no posters advertising them nothing. Don't know if we can take the credit but they are gone anyway so what does it matter why.
I was marching in memory of Una's sister who ran from fireworks and was killed on the road as well as all the other animals and people upset by them. Just pleased they are gone for a bit longer

I have to agree Anne- they do start earlier and are on sale for longer and longer each year:( On our way to ringcraft on Monday my Dad was saying the last time he felt a *shake* like the earthquake the other night was when he was 13/14 and a lad of 17 had given a young girl a roman candle and told her to put it in the fuel tank of a lorry! The boy apparently stood far enough away to escape being hurt and the fire crew went to stamp out some rags on the floor and realised it was the girls body:o Everyone who stood near had limbs missing etc- he said the whole village shook! No doubt there are numerous stories like this up and down the country every year- so why the owners of shops etc bother to sell them for the sake of making a *few quid* I don't know. Never mind the untold damage and injuries cats etc receive from kids mucking about. It just doesn't make any sense:( Oh and guess what- when we arrived at ringcraft you could see and hear more fireworks:( I think they should limit them to licenced displays only! And well done to you for making a stand against it:)
