I am desperate for company in the form of a new puppy (bitch) for my boy.
After contacting original breeder and asking after future litters, she said yes love me to have one and was about to breed........except now there is no sign of a season due a couple of months ago or more.
Would it be the wrong thing to do to make enquiries with other breeders (they are few and far between).

Personally I would stick with the breeder I know, bitches rarely oblige by coming in season on time when we make plans to breed :D  Unless there is a good reason for a particular timescale, why not just wait.  After all a breeder is more likely to make sure you get a pup if they have successfully homed with you before.

I had a similar thing with one of my puppy owners, they were worried that I might be offended when they got theeir secodn dog from another breeder as the timing of that litter suited them, adn of course I didnt mind, there is nothing to say you should have to stick to one breeder or line.  My couple wwere lucky enough to make both their boy and new girl up to champions.

Ah, thanks for that. I suppose I am getting a little impatient.....There is no reason not to wait really. My boy is 2 and he would love company I am certain, I have been very happy that she (breeder) has and is there for me and the dogs temprement and everything has been just great so I suppose then it's better the devil you know.
I want a bitch and know that her next letter may not provide me with one so that is probably why I'm a bit twitchy too.
thanks again I am one of lifes worriers with my heart very much on my sleeve, and love to come on here to 'think out loud'...

This happened to me over a year ago, but I was the breeder.  She eventually came in 3 months late and then missed!  Now she is due in 2 weeks and one of the people who has waited nearly 2 years will be having a pup.  I'm actually shocked that she's waited so long, but she's seen a couple of pups that I've bred and has said that her pup has to be from me!!!

If this is the breeder that you felt most comfortable with originally I'd wait myself.  Hopefully it won't be as long a wait as the person who is having one of mine has had!

I was in the same position as your prospective puppy owner. Between one thing & another ended up waiting 2 years to get the puppy I wanted from the breeder I wanted - I wouldn't have had it any other way. The lines of communication between myself & my breeder were always open & even when they said they would understand if I went elsewhere I stuck it out & got the puppy I wanted - who was well worth the wait!

If you know the breeder and know you can trust them, like what they breed etc.
I think you can not go wrong waiting to get one of theirs...

Or maybe if you really feel you do not want to wait ask them if they have anybody they would recommend as you would probably be more likely to meet another nice breeder through your current boys breeder than just doing research yourself.

I waited for over a year for my little girl, she is now 4 months old and absolutely lovely :)
I still have 6 months to wait before she can come to UK too!
I decided to go and get a puppy from where ever I find a combination and breeder I like.
So far I am very pleased with both so it's been worth the wait.

Thanks to all, I will try and wait, as I am so happy with my boy!
When decided on our breed we knew it could potentially be 18 months and more for a pup of any sex.
I am now looking for a bitch as I dont much fancy two boys.
I know this will be harder work as I would also like to show and therefore keep them both entire, and the last thing I want is to breed!
So that will be it unless the breeder has any other plans.
They nsay patience is a virtue!
