Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / weeing & pooing in new place??!!!

Leo is acting well..... strange?!

I took brainless's advice today and took him round my mums to meet her dog Taz... they had a ball playing and having a general good time, then leo weed on the carpet, which was fine, i cleaned it up etc....

But then i bought him home and he pooed straight away in the livingroom, even though he had literally just been out in the garden..... and then went into his crate and pee'ed!!!!!!!

He has NEVER urinated or pooed in the livingroom since we had him, he either does it outside or in the dining room (laminate) certainly not in his crate..... the only thing we have changed is we have a new air freshener, so the house might smell different?

Is this typical? im just worried i have undone 7 hard days of potty training (with no accidents today or yesterday) by taking him out!! :(

Or i could just be reading something into just a puppy who is only 12 weeks having a couple of accidents.... its just completely out of character for him to go in the livingroom!!

If it had just been one or the other i wouldn't have even thought twice, but 2 accidents in about 10 minutes (even thought he had been taken out inbetween!) was just a bit :confused::confused:

Oh, the joys of puppies ;) Don't worry too much, it will all fall into place eventually. All he is doing today is re-marking his home territory. He wants to feel safe and will do this now and then. Keep taking him out, though. He needs as much socialising as you can give him. The more he sees, the more he will gain confidence and will pee less inside.

Oh good so its normal?????????? :D :D i care not about the poo & pee, it was purely the behavioural aspect..... !!

talk about over protective parenting lol ;)

hes just gone a wee in his crate again........ literally 5 minutes after going outside!!

He hasn't had an accident in the house for days and now 3 accidents in a couple of hours all in a room where he hasn't gone before???!!!

This is so frustrating!

What did you clear it up with?
It needs to be cleaned with something that will take all the smell out like biological washing powder. If not then the smell will remain and he will think this is the area to wee.
If you cleaned it up with something like detol I think this contains ammonia which to dogs smells like urine and hence making him think this is where he should urinate.

Don't forget that winter is one of the worst times to try to housetrain a puppy ;) It's cold, wet and miserable outside :) Would you want to go outside when you can stay inside where it's warm?
