Can anyone recommend a good steam press ,I know nothing about them but my wife has hinted she would like one for Exmas.

Cheers Martin

the woman must be mad!!! :D :D :D

Unless, of course, she wants you to operate it :D
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 09.12.07 17:32 UTC
Are you absolutely sure she wanted one for Christmas ? She wasn't just hinting that she wanted one ? :D :D If you get one then get ready to wear a tin helmet on Christmas morning :D :D Or have a beautiful, personal gift ready to give her for when the shouting starts ROFL . My OH would have a very 'difficult' christmas if he bought something for the house as a present for me unless given express instructions to do so (in writing) LOL

LOL

If my OH  bought me a steam press for Christmas, guess who'd get steamed first?  :D :D :D
- By Dogz Date 09.12.07 17:58 UTC
I have a Domena one and I love it!
However....please do not buy it as a Christmas gift.
A gift for Christmas is hardly a tool to do housework is it? A nice personal thing perfume or anything but practical 'gifts'.

OH point taken, back to the drawing board then. I take it a loft ladder would be a nono aswell.

Cheers Martin

Noooooo, loft ladder is good, just make sure you buy yourself a present at the same time. A coffin!!! You WILL be needing one!!!
Lea.
- By zarah Date 09.12.07 18:34 UTC
I'd be more inclined to let him have first go of the ladder and lock him up there for the day :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.12.07 18:34 UTC
A 'proper' gift is something that only she will use. Only give a loft ladder if she's going to be the only one ever going into the loft. Only give a steam press if her clothes are going to be the only ones pressed. Only give saucepans if she only ever cooks for herself. These sorts of thing is a gift for the house, not for her. :)
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 09.12.07 19:08 UTC
Now you could make a pact that you will buy her the steam press and she will buy you the loft ladder :-) We have had a few agreements like this if money was tight and we needed stuff for the house. Another alternative is to buy a small gift then give her enough money to buy the steam press after christmas (in the sales) if she really wants to, or she can spend it on herself if the steam press is not her first choice :D

martin i slightly have to disagree with the others....my xmas pressies have included frying pans, various kitchen tools and a 22 rimfire riffle for which I dont actually have FAC!!! however i use all of them (the last obvously only with my OH who DOES have a FAC) and love em all.....even if i do use them about the house...so not all girls dislike pressies for the home. we work on the basis that funds are limited and as we both dislike all the nonsense surrounding modern xmas, then we might as well use it as an excuse to buy something for each other that we both can enjoy or get benefit from.

Car ramps and spanners are a good choice too........says my oH:eek::eek::eek:
- By ceejay Date 09.12.07 19:25 UTC
We often buy something together for the house - like a new TV, computer etc that we can both enjoy using - then wrap up a few books and nice things for the day.

("A 'proper' gift is something that only she will use")  That rules out the underwear as well then. (only joking)

Thanks for all the advice, maybe if we all posted a wish list it would help with some ideas.
- By Lea Date 09.12.07 21:23 UTC
Dont think so, as my wish list is :-
A wrist Garmin to tell me how far I have run,
And
Running clothes!!!!!
Your wife is liable to throttle you if you bought her them!!!
Lea.

Love your sense of humour ;) So do you like wearing thongs or are you a support pants kind of guy  :D :D

I agree Sam, I am not a gift for gifts sake person and have only ever given and received practical gifts.

This is the time of year for major clothing items like coats etc, but I was from a large Catholic family with one wage earning parent.

With my own offspring I have sometimes bought the games condole for Christmas and Birthday combined, but usually it is things they need, not things they want.

Most often adults in my family only get stocking fillers.
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 09.12.07 22:32 UTC
Martin.....if you insist on buying underwear:-

1   DO NOT buy red & black

2.  Buy M & S "pretties" in coffee & cream ....and leave the receipt in the package!!!!!

Otherwise - why not buy a couple of tickets (day returns) for Eurostar to Paris for the week after Christmas......or something like that?????

Hi Martin

>but my wife has hinted she would like one for Exmas

If she really wants one (poor wummin   :P ) then get her one (definitely no idea what's good or not, I'd need to ask my ironing collection service :D ) then by all means treat her to one BUT (and it's an important "BUT" ;) ) might be best to think of a more girlie surprise to go along with it like some luxury cosmetic products (discretion required but preferably anti-ageing if she's over 30!) or better still a day's pampering at a spa or salon (my idea of a "good steam"  :P)

HTH, Teri
who would hang draw & quarter her OH in response to anything remotely practical!!!!
- By pinklilies Date 10.12.07 17:32 UTC
I'd quite like a steam press for Xmas! I'd put a more positive spin on it than others have....I think it would save me time on ironing! So therefore the hidden gift is actually the time and effort saved, as opposed to the steam press itself!
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 10.12.07 18:35 UTC
Ah but it would save even more time if someone else did the ironing :D :D
- By abbymum [gb] Date 10.12.07 21:21 UTC
Now that would be a great present someone to do the ironing for you for say six months.
Mary
