Hi Everyone

We have a girl Staff aged 2 years on January 15th, shes very balanced and super dog friendly, and great with people, she has a lick for everyone! :D

We recently had our friends entire male stafford round, they were fine at first, but then Mitz started to get very hyper and bounding round the room, pushing into Snoop (Male dogs name) and then she started humping him!!! He hadnt encouraged play, was just sniffing round, getting aquainted with his new surroundings.
She was really going for it and Snoop was not impressed, I lifted her off and then when she got excited again she started humping him again! :rolleyes:

Why did she do this?
Whenever we bring dogs home who are with a friend she is always so hyper and boisterous, but otherwise is fine outside.

How do we stop her being so scatty with other dogs when they are round (Because we dont want to stop bringing other dogs round as we want another puppy soon, will she do the same with him?? And another reason she shouldnt have to tied up whhen another dog is in her home) and why would she hump Snoop so vigourisly indoors when he is round but never outdoors when theyre running together?!!??

Please help as it is funny, im not embarrased but it is annoying!

Go for it Mitz...you can get away with it we humans can only dream!!!

she doing this to show him she's boss.  I read this in a book somewhere. 

She may also be a little uncertain, if she's not used to doggy company in the house; or if he wasn't trying to play at all, she may have been trying to get him to play.  Humping isn't always about dominance or sex.

Hi Rach, is she due a season or has she been spayed? Our Cavalier (female) humps everything when she's in season - her toys, our other dog who is also female....etc. Also the Samoyeds I look after will all hump each other when they're in season, and they are both bitches. They do it very vigorously like you described, but they tend to do it when they are playing outside as opposed to indoors. I'm not sure if your girl is spayed but I do find that seasons change the behaviour of mine!! Dogs eh! :rolleyes:

We have a family female terrier who will hump anything standing still, dog, cat, human, the minute she starts we just say the command Off! and she will, my mum's youngest Cocker is also very rampant, she seems to only do this to her closest bitch friend though, but when younger was at it all the time.  It's part growing up and for younger bitches hormonal. For some it is territorial and for some as already said play.

Although funny at times, (well it is :-D ) it also needs addressing especially when unwelcomed, so try a command like Off! To be honest, if you give her something more interesting to do she will loose interest anyway, so deflect with a toy or a game. :-)

At least its nothing to worry about too much, she does come off him kind of easy but it was so bizarre as she had never done it before.....but never had dog company in her own home before either.....ah ha! Theres the link!

Will try some training using Snoop as well when he is next round! :)
