That isn't a Gordon Setter ? What do you think ?
- By zarah Date 04.12.07 12:50 UTC
Looks part Afghan to me..?
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 04.12.07 12:57 UTC
He is a throw back to the 'red' Gordon Setter. They are not common, but you do get them. Most are the common black/tan, but this one is a lovely red setter colour, with a bit of tan.... ;)
- By rachelsetters Date 04.12.07 12:59 UTC
He is a Liver and Tan Gordon - not a recognised colour - and now again if dog and bitch carry the liver/tan gene they appear!

If it is Max then he is also in need of a good groom bless him!  they have allowed his topknot to grow ;)

I met Max at the British Gordon fun day - lovely dog!

Is it the one with David Hamilton - called Max?
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 04.12.07 12:57 UTC
Yes, Rach, it's David's dog.
- By LJS Date 04.12.07 12:58 UTC
Yes it is. The hair on his head was far too curly :)
- By rachelsetters Date 04.12.07 13:02 UTC
Bless him needs stripping out - am sure when a lot of setter owners saw this they were champing at the bit to pull it out!
- By zarah Date 04.12.07 13:07 UTC
Would never have thought it was a pure bred Gordon Setter  How come the tail was so thin and curled at the tip, or are they like that sometimes?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 04.12.07 13:10 UTC
Well I am waiting to see it on CH4+1.
- By LJS Date 04.12.07 13:20 UTC
I thought that about his tail as well and thought his snout was too thin :)
- By rachelsetters Date 04.12.07 13:30 UTC
Have put a link to a photo of him when I met him in my profile - wouldn't say he was the best but have seen worse - tails can be a thing with gordons and very 'whippy' esp. if they don't have the feathering to protect them.
- By zarah Date 04.12.07 13:46 UTC
Oh, he looks much less hairier there :D
- By rachelsetters Date 04.12.07 13:22 UTC
Some Gordons tails are thin and featherless - and just the way he was carrying it I think?

He is the first 'in the flesh' liver and tan I have met.

Whats the top knot on a setter thats been allowed to grow?

Is that like the bit on top of Sussex Spaniels heads that grows to look like a funky wig if its not cut? :D :D
- By rachelsetters Date 04.12.07 17:05 UTC
You got it - gives them that 'poodle look'! :)  Or I say to my boys - their Elvis quiff :)
- By Archiebongo Date 04.12.07 17:10 UTC
My fingers are itching like mad just thinking of that top knot!!  Let me at it!!

Did they sort him?
Started watching it, but only saw first 10 mins then turned TV off to have peace with Gemma.
I thought it was a very dark Irish. But deffinatly needed a proper grooming what ever.
- By Rach85 [gb] Date 05.12.07 09:26 UTC
If I had a Spaniel I would let that bit grow, it looks so funny and cute! Especially on Sussex Spaniels!
- By rachelsetters Date 05.12.07 09:34 UTC
Oh no - I hate it when it is overgrown - like Jill get all twitchy to pull it out!  :)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 06.12.07 11:30 UTC
Not just setter owners, as a dog groomer I was itching to get hold of him! Lovely boy though. :-)
