My little cross uses one and it is great.
He started shadow chasing and a few other obsessive behaviours. He was first given Skullcap and Valerian which caused him distress. On it he became confused and aggressive. He had even bitten one of his favourite human friends.
We then tried the dap collar and he has been so calm and laid back. So much so I can tell when the collar needs replacing as he starts his shadow chasing again.

Of course each dog is different and what works for mine may not work for yours. But in our case it is fantabulous

Mine has been wearing one along with plug in and although she was quite chilled in the house with fireworks going off when we were there - on her own it made no difference at all.  It has made no difference to her excitement when she goes to agility either.  When she gets wound up no artificial means seems to be of help - she even fought medication.  The only thing that seems to work to calm my dog is to keep very calm and quiet myself - get her to focus on me, play games such as hide and seek with the kong that distract her - give her something to do in fact - but she is a collie!

Just started using one on my mongrel yesterday. She has become really playfull and has got back some of her very puppyish behaviours back already. It could be a coincidence though. Not sure a day can make that much difference.

I tried a plug in version after skull cap and valerian had no effect it didnt work either, collars may be different though, massage seemed to work best!!

Yes I am interested in massage as a means of calming - something I haven't tried yet - have put a couple of books on my Christmas list for T-touch.

I have used the D.A.P Spray, on Merlins bed when travelling a long way in the car. It has helped him, as the first three hour trip, he shivered all the way, even tho` I sat next to him. The return journey, he only shivered the first five minutes. It only lasts approx two hours at a time, before having to reapply on his bed. Haven`t tried the diffuser or collar.

I've used one recently to counteract a degree of gun-nervousness - all I can say is that now she's not at all gunshy, but running in instead.......:rolleyes:

The only way to find out is surely to buy one and try it?

Some suggest they reinforce unwanted behaviour by rewarding it through the "feel good factor" produced by the pheromones.  Each dog is as individual as its owner so it is impossible to generalise

I know this is an old post, but i am thinking of trying a dap collar for my dogs separation issues. But at $70 a pop, i am kind of putting it off... There is no way i could afford to replace the collar every month! So I'm not sure if i should try one to begin with??

I would pay the money to get a behaviourist in to work with you rather than spend that amount of money on a dap collar. You need to break the reason as to why he has SA but in a kind way.
