Hi everyone a little question for you all as your all helping me so much. Does anyone else use the cartons of top dog goats milk? I know dogs shouldn't be given cows milk, But this is manufactured especially for puppies and dog's got it cause it had added nutrition and glucosamine,And i wanted her to have the best start. But have now had to stop ,As my Goldie has a bad prob with sickness and diarrhea and a very spotty belly, This all started long before she had the goats milk in fact its been an on going problem on and off since young i have tried various food ,And she has now been put on RC hypoallergenic. I wonder whether the goats milk was ever a good thing to give her she is 1 tomorrow! Would anybody please be able to give me any advice?

My breeder always fed her dogs Goats milk as she also reared goats at one time and it never affected any of them, but it is always possible.

If you cut it out for a few months and the problem resolves then you know that was it, if not then it wasn't, at least it is any easy item to exclude from the diet as unlikely to be an ingredient in anything else she eats.

thanks it just seems a shame to have to cut out everything she likes. she has only been on the RC h for 4 days ,so its difficult to tell, but i would've hated to have been the cause of her tummy troubles.

Do you know what the rash on her tummy was/is?

i don't know what the rash was the vet didn't say? but they gave me hibbi scrub to wash her tummy with, it cleared for a few days on its own , but today its back again! the spots once gone leave brown patches which are dry but eventually go. The vet hasn't suggested a blood test, but i think i need to ask for one. I hoped her being on the RC hypoallergenic was going to help, but after the rash has returned today with her just being on that for the past 5 days i wonder just what is going on!

If hibiscrub sorted it then it is going to be a bacterial or fungal infection.

Hi there, i have an irish wolfhound who also suffered from bouts of diarrhea after i gave her goats milk. i spoke to my vet who said not to give it to her and that she will be getting all the nutrients she needs in the conventional dog food.  i have had a big german shepherd who i reared on goats milk to no effect, but he did get auto immune desiese when he was older so not sure if this is what caused it

No animal post weaning consumes milk bar man.  There is no need to as all the nutrients a dog requires can be consumed via a more apporpriate source.

Many dogs do not have sufficient lactase to digest lactose the milk sugar and some are intolerant to casein the milk protein.  It is a prime trigger of diarrhoea.

I personally can see no reason to give a dog milk or any other dairy product bar live yoghurt which, being predigested and having lots of probiotics is more easily digested and of benefit.

If you want to give glucosamine I would suggest you would be better off giving a separate supplement.
