Okay people how long would youestimate a refund should take to reach your account. ie spendable. this is a large retailer we are talking about, not a one man band. I am stating debit as apposed to credit card in case there is a difference.
Thanks Karen

I would say five working days. if there is a problem ask your bank to take it up as they should be able to sort it out :) If it was done in the shop rather than over the phone it should be done as you wait and then should show on your banks statement in about two days at the most. HTH

I only have experience on a credit card, but in reality it can take up to 2 weeks to appear.  I have never understood why when it is put through the same terminal as the sale, which as we all know is shown immediately. It is not the retailer who holds onto the money, it is shown in their banking straightaway.

Until last Christmas I was a Customer Services Team Leader for a well known catalogue shop ;).

We always advised people who had refunds that it takes 7 seconds to take the money from your account but 7 days to get it back.   It could be quicker than that but it was dependant upon the individual banks concerned but it is never any longer.

Like Sandrah said, it is processed straightaway by the shop and it is then up to the bank as to how long it takes to be credited to your account.  It is usually held in a clearing/transaction account in the meantime.

I had a credit put on my debit card within the same day last month and that was with Asda.

I find it usually takes around 3 day to put back on but was told by my bank up to 5 working days

OH, I wonder why it takes so long to be put back in then.
Nothing to do with all the interest they earn at all :eek::eek::eek:

I think all companies are the same, my daughter (who only works part time) ordered some clothes online, money was taken out instantly, the clothes weren't suitable so returned, this was nearly 4 weeks ago and she still hasn't had a refund.....when she asked them about it they admitted the goods were now back in store but there was a backlog and it would be done ASAP......nearly £70 is a fair amount of money to a teenager on a part time wage.

I recently ordered a fridge from Tesco and the delivery man knocked on the door to say he couldn't find it on his van.  After numerous calls to the CS dept and then one of the 'customer service team' putting the phone down on me, I cancelled the order, the card was refunded the following month

I think the official line is that it can take up to 60 days to get a refund but obviously it rarely takes this long (previous bank manager:rolleyes:). If you haven't had anything after about 3 weeks i would chase the company concerned.
