Topic Other Boards / Foo / Mobile phone with large text?

I'm getting fed up with mobile phones with tiny text size. I have got reading glasses, but sometimes I'd just like to read/make a text without them! Can anyone recomend a mobile phone that you can enlarge the text so you can see what you are entering or reading? The one I have I just bought is the smallest text ever!

With only 20% sight I know your problem.  Some of the older Samsungs are pretty good for Text clarity, but the newer ones are small again :(

I have a Nokia which opens up and there is a keypad inside small but I can see it so I think most people could, I can type the text message properly and not have to press number one 3 times to get a C

I have a smart phone running Windows Mobile 5 and it has an accessibility setting for large text. The menu and icon text is still small but text messages and phone numbers are very large and legible. I also have a PDA with phone running WM 5 as well. With the PDA version the text size is more adjustable and all of the text is changed so you can make menu items and icon labels large as well as text messages. Ask at the phone shop for a WM 6 (newer version) phone or PDA and get them to set the text size to large in the accessbility menu so you can see if it will work. There are also phones made specifically for the older or visually impaired that do less - just phones with text capability. They have large text and large buttons.

(I confess after playing with my phones to reply to you I kind of like that big text. :-D)

I have a Blackberry for work which is slightly cheaper than most PDAs which you can also select the text size and font on.

Hi there

If you just wanted a basic (very basic) text and call phone this might be for you http://www.tjhughes.co.uk/Technology/Phones/90102499999

My mum in law has one and it's got a large text size, she bought her's from an online store though and it cost 4 times the cost than this one.

I've just had a look at that Paula.  I'm wondering now why on earth I've spent hundreds on mobiles when I only use them for calling and texting (and that's not very often!!)  It's a nice looking phone too....and a lovely price :-D

I've had that phone for some time now, very pleased with it, battery life is great not having to run all those pointless bits you never use, I got mine for £5.00 form a local phone shop.

Apparently they're designed to be used by farmers and out door types and in developing countries where a robust phone with out all the gadgets are needed.

Wow I would have loved something like that.  I never use anything except the alarm on my phone and just want to be able to make calls and read the text.  Even with having to unblock it to use my T mobile sim woudlb e worth it, my last two phones ahve all cost me around £70 each.

Oh my Mum in Law wouldn't swap her cheap Motorola for anything, in fact she's thinking of buying this one from TJ Hughes in case hers ever breaks :-)

She's had it a while and when she bought it, it was sim free so she could use any network.  I'm thinking of getting my mum one for Christmas as she can't use hers for texting at all because the text is so small.

Co-incidence or what, have just seen one, as one of my sons freinds who is visiting from teh USA has bought one to use whilst here as it was cheap.

Barbara, the Motorola comes unblocked, you can use it with any network SIM card.

Of course the different networks selling the phone won't tell you that, they want you to buy the phone form them and use it on their network.
