My dad was given a jack russell about 6 months ago and he purchased a dog carry thing which he puts him in while taking him in the car to stop him jumping here, there and everywhere. Anyway, as soon as he's put in the carry thing and in the car he just constantly yaps! I think he's generally excited about going out but he just doesnt shut up and its really annoying when he's yapping in your ear the whole time. (The journey to the horses where we take him is 20 minutes and he yaps all the way!)

Also he's not too good at recall and ignores my dad most of the time when he shouts him to come to him. What things can he try to get him to come back to him and not go chasing in hedges and streams?

Training classes and keeping him on a lead, long line until he has recall.

As for the car this is hard if the dog is always getting a rewarding experience at the end.  He will need to take him for short rides that do not end in anything, round the block and hoem again etc.  Covering the crate so he can't see out may reduce excitement too.

Thanks for that. He hasnt really got time to take him to training classes because he works at the times they would be on which is why Im trying here. I like the idea of a long line - that would be do'able! :)
