How reliable are scans? Had my bitch scanned and vet says there are no pups but if there are there is only one and it is hiding.I don't know what to do for the best now ,do i keep feeding her puppy food which she has been on for a week,do i increase her exercise back to her usual as i had cut her down. And can she now be left alone with my other dogs. Any thoughts on what you think i should do would be greatfully received.

Three scans ago, my boxer bitch was scanned by senior partner in vet practice. "No pups...take her home and try next time" he said.
Result: 7 big fat puppies 4 weeks later.Needless to say the last 3 scans have been performed by someone who can.
Reliability is in direct proportion to the skill of the operator.

PS..Wise woman once said " just because man has large probe and a tub of lubricant doesn't mean he knows how to use it"

Hi,  thanks for your words .Don't want to question the vet but he did offer a free scan and all i asked was for a checkup he felt her and said she was small and would do a quick scan free of charge to be certain   , nice fellow that he is .  (to be honest she is just looking flabby normally she is very toned but have not exercised her like i usually do and put her on puppy food so that could be it )maybe she is having a phantom as her behavior is text book symtoms but her physical apperance is not what i would expect.(she was a maiden and this would have been my first litter so not sure really) anyway will just keep an eye on her just incase there is one pup and keep her whelping area till after the dates of predicted whelp are well and truely over .
thanks

Lancashire . Do you think that pig scanners are more accurate and will definately tell me if there is one in there? As after a bit of reading on the web i am now panicking incase there is one and she can't go into labour.
