Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Dog scared of other house dogs after an attack
- By Crespin Date 10.11.07 03:19 UTC
My toy breed was attacked by another dog (as you may know by my post in the breeding section), now she is scared of dogs in the house.  I have two others, a 15 year old gun dog, and another one of her same breed.

She wont go near either of them, and I was wondering do I just let it ride, and let her work it out herself, or force the issue and make her go near the other dogs?

Any advice would be great

Whatever you do, don't force the issue. That'll only make things far worse.

React as little as possible to her fear. Don't reassure her - just act normally, maybe a little over-jolly! As with any fear, if she sees that you're not bothered she'll be reassured and will gradually come round. Titbits when the other dogs are around and she's not reacting badly to them will help.

I have her entered Exibition only, basically to get her on the show grounds at the next dog show.  Dont know if that may be to much for her, although she has never been cross about shows, so she does associate showing with good things.
Just a bit nervous about her reactions with all the other dogs.

In that case i would stay on the confines of the show and not put her into the hussle and bussle of the main show, until you can gauge her reaction...

thats what I was planning on doing, as I am also a vendor.  I was going to put her under the table, where she is away from the dogs, but still can hear them, and smell them.
