Am I correct in thinking a bitch would 'come in to whelp'?
Just getting excited here about January...................
(Thats when we can have our new Puppy)

I don't think I understand what you mean ...

Just texted the breeder....she replied, " waiting for her to come in any day now".
I am hoping that means "comes in to whelp".
I dont want to be bothering her and appear to be the nervous wreck/pest that I am.

The term "come in" usually means "come into season"not to start whelping
- By STARRYEYES Date 09.11.07 20:54 UTC
if she has been mated and the puppies are due soon she would be whelping when giving birth , 'coming in ' can also mean coming into season.
I imagine if you are expecting a new puppy in January she is already in whelp and is due to give birth very soon.

Those are all the things that crossed my mind!

So you are collecting your puppy in January, well she must mean she is whelping soon then, just an odd way of saying it, a very odd way :-D but hey never mind, that must be what she means.

You must be very excited, are you first on the list? :-)

waiting for her to come in any day now".

You are expecting a puppy and not a boat aren't you? :-D

Karen,

How exciting, what are you getting?

>"waiting for her to come in any day now"

I'd interpret that as 'coming into season' any day now. If she came into season tomorrow, that's about a fortnight till mating, then 9 weeks till whelping (approx 24th January), then 7+ weeks till you get the pup home (middle to end of March).

I definitely agree it sounds like coming into season. It's not at all uncommon for bitches to be late to come into season (and always when you WANT them to, never when you have an important show and DON'T want it!!) and litters to be a couple of months later than expected -I've had to tell many a prospective puppy buyer this myself -sorry, not in season yet.

Yep it seems inevitable they keep you waiting when you wnat tehm to coem in and come in early when you don't need them to.

Did the breeder say you would get the puppy in Jan. I have never heard that expression used for anything but a pending season.. and the pups would be born Jan .. to new homes in March.

I'm in that situation myself waiting on a bitch 'coming in' meaning coming into season now.

Hmmnnn.....
She did say she expected pups ready in January when I first contacted her about future litters, so I took that to mean November births, but sort of had the same feeling about 'coming in' sounding like season  I will wait another week before calling again and perhaps a landline call this time instead of a text, then it can be clear.
Another little Aussie Angels, I believe there are now 4 on the Island.

Thanks for comments
Karen :-)

Unfortunately bitches rarely co-operate with our plans.
