Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use over a heat pad that will stop my youngster digging it up!

At the moment in their outside cabins, they have heat pads that I have sunk into a wooden removable base and covered with a piece of light fleecy blanket with a piece of vetbed on top.  My youngster loves to dig these up and pull out not only his bedding during the day but both sets of bedding from both cabins!  The idea was that he would have to stand on the wood thus putting his weight on the blanket underneath and this would stop him digging it up WRONG!!

I have debated after reading several posts on here about trying paper or hay bedding, but my breed have a  very soft coat and I dont fancy pulling bits of paper/hay out at night as they sleep inside at night and only go out during the day when we are working.

Any suggestions? (apart from tying his feet together!!)

Does he really need th heat?  Could it be that he is too hot hence the digging.  Mine is a double coated breed so have never provided them with heating, but I do live down south in a sheltered location.  Mine are opposite to yours using it primarily to sleep in at night, but do take themselves off for a rest sometimes in  the day.
