Hi!

I've been reading about Petal Cleanse for use on dogs in homes of people who have allergies.... does anyone have any success stories? Particularly in the case of longer haired dogs?

Thanks!

I am sure Val on here a while ago recommended it.  Worth a try!!!! it isn't a fortune. :-)

No positive stories I'm afraid, but felt I'd reply so you don't feel ignored!

I recommended it to someone who had a pup from me on the recommendation from someone else (so it must work sometimes), but it didn't work for them and I ended up finding him a new home.

Haven't used it either but find I can live very happily with two heavy coated dogs without them setting off my allergies.  They flared a bit at the introduction of each dog but disappear with continued exposure.  i still react badly to some other dogs though, although more so short haired ones in my case.

I have heard very good things about Petal Cleanse though...I would dearly love to have cats but am highly allergic to them and a member here recommended it as I think she knows people who have used it to great effect :)

Mike is doing well so far with the kittens as he is really allergic to them. He has had some really bad days but those seem to be getting few and far between now so think the time of exposure seems to be working

Oh well that's quite encouraging! Thanks!

Actually, another quick question re: allergies....

Do you reckon that if a person with a slight allergy has a dog from puppyhood, he/she is more likely to develop a tolerance for it, given that the dander builds up over time, as opposed to being stuck "in at the deep end" with a VERY hairy, sheddy dog?

I am allergic to dogs( I have 6) and found using petal cleanse (or equivalent) and the allergy wipes from the pet store helps.
I only needed to use them for the first couple of months after introducing a new dog to the family. On occasion when the dogs need a good bath I will use these again as dirty dogs seem to cause a flare up.

I would reccomned it.

Cheers

Hi, I work in a petshop and we stock a spray, like petal cleanse and 3 customers who bought it said it works really well.

We got a cat when I was 13 - my mother knew I was allergic to them but wanted a cat anyway. I was a bit wheezy at first but then got used to her. However when I went away to uni for terms at a time then came back I was REALLY allergic to her, severely wheezy. So for me continuous exposure worked, but with gaps in exposure it got a lot worse - in fact so much so that a few years ago when I took a kitten home after 15hrs I ended up at the doctors being nebulised and on high dose steroids. No cats for me now. :( We did try petalcleanse once, but the cat hated being bathed in it so it never got done again, so can't really say if it works!
