Topic Other Boards / Foo / Insurance: work this one out

I have my Jack russel insured with M&S and like everyone else got my new policy in this morning and the price has leaped up. Will not be renewing it. When I was looking around for my whippet last year I tried M&S and it was to much so ended up with Tesco at £9.17 per month. Today I tried Tesco on line for the JR and was quoted £4.75 per month. Brilliant so I went back to the begining as you can put in two pets and put in the whippets details to and they have come up with £9.80 per month for the two of them. So  guess who will be cancelling the exsisting policy in the morning and taking out this one.

Crazy or what.

Check the small print so that you know what is covered and what isn't, for how much and for how long.

I think every one is getting price hikes from M&S, one of mine doubled  when I rang M&S to query it a very nice girl on there told me a lot seemed to be leaving, maybe that's what they want, wind down the pet insurance.

I took out insurance with Healthy pets today, cover seems good, backed by AXA which is the same as M&S and for less cost then insuring one with M&S.

Just a little worried about your price difference with the Tesco one.

Previous cover
Whippet - £9.70

Recent Quote.
Whippet and JR now £9.80

Would you just double check your cover lumphy it sounds as though you were on the gold or silver policy before and may now just be on the bronze.

The bronze does not pay out your dogs purchase price on death, (at presentation of the receipt) and vets costs etc. are different.

It may still be ok for you, but best to double check everything. ;-)

What I find annoying on many insurances is if you have paid a reasonable amount on purchasing your dog your insurance is almost double to someone who paid £50 for a pup. Most dogs have an average life of 13 years (depending on breed) it really should not make a difference the amount you paid for your pup, they make so much money out of us over those years. :-(

Hi

I did it again and took of the additional covers and it is now £8.69 for the two crazy.

I dont mind about not getting my purchase price back.  I dont have recipts for them anyway so cant prove what I paid.

I am only wanting vets fees and third party liability. I have taken of the additional benefits which include emergency kenneling if I am ill, Payment in case we need to cancell holiday because dog is ill and money to pay for advertising if lost and abroad cover.

I am still looking at the small print though as it is to good to be true. and it doesnt make sense to me either

Check whether the insured sum is 'per condition' or 'per year', and whether ongoing conditions are covered year on year.

And also the deal is for the first year only

We'll even give you a further 5% discount if you insure more than one pet with us. Discounts are taken off the risk based premium.

If you go on Tescos website I think you will see the reason :-)

Buy Tesco Pet Insurance online between the 8th October and 13th November 2007 and we'll give you a massive 50% discount.

I'm with M&S for 4 of my dogs and am stuck with them due to previous claims.

I've just insured Esme (8 week old Goldie) with AXA, same policy as M&S, but £80 a year cheaper!

I think that its a bit of a minefield with pet insurance, we had our previous dog insured with direct line (still is) and because of claims have had to keep her with them but they go up by a huge portion every year regardless whether we claim or not!! But they are very quick sorting any claims out for us.
We had our 6 weeks free insurance with petplan but the service we had was really bad so we are now with sainsburys who work out alot cheaper and the cover is great! (but i haven't had to claim with them yet!!!)
It is becoming more and more expensive for people to keep their pets insured but a potentially costly mistake if you don't you just can't win!!

I,ve just recieved invitation to renew Ingas insurance with MaS ,its gone up by a hundred pounds to

I,ve just recieved ingas renewal policy they want another hundred pounds a year and have also removed the no excess option (MaS). now its 50 quid per condition.

I,ll have to renew it as she,s nearly eleven and has ongoing medication needing prescriptions every two or three months so nonoe else will probably take her on now.
They have well and truly got me now:rolleyes:

We have our GR with M&S but will probably review in December when renewal is due - especially as we will then lose our no excess condition:( It doubled in price last year but the cover is good and they are very quick at paying out :)

Our terrier I have just insured with Argos and that costs £6 a month. We have the platinum cover ( which  is actually cheaper than the gold but has superior cover:confused:) and it covers up to £6,000 per condition. It is underwritten by Axa as is M&S.

I cancelled Copper's insurance this year with M&S as the premium went up by £10 per month and the excess was 15% of any claim.  I've got the same cover with AXA for £14 instead of £25 per month and £50 excess.  Read the small print very carefully though whoever you decide to go with.
