my friend sent a puppy to USA 2 days ago. it arrived at USA airport at 4.45 and "customs" closed at 4.30pm so it was taken to a kennel overnight and they refused to let it go to its new owners:confused:
Today they have been back to the airport to collect the puppy only to be told that its had food and water and a bath(!!??) but still cannot be released from Delta Cargo and that  the only way to get him released was to go to a bonded broker to release him tohis new owner They would not release him to her without going through this service. My friend doesnt speak english so i have been trying to help the situation however no one will give any inf as to what the problem is. Has anyone heard of anything similar that might help this poor puppy who must be terrified by now:mad:

I think that's part of the reason why so many Breeders in the UK are reluctant to export, and puppies especially...I wouldn't want one of mine to go through that! Hope it's sorted soon, Dawn x

Don't see why Dawn, many dogs go abroad every year and have a safe passage to their new homes.

Sorry can't help you but hope it soon gets sorted!

Maybe they do hun...but I couldn't live with myself if a pup/dog I sent got really distressed or delayed somewhere! Maybe it's just all the bad ones that you hear about! When and if we ever get to Greece we are taking them all overland! All the best, Dawn

Well the Spanish that we imported that were flown over were great, the one that was driven over and took a number of days was petrified of being in a car for around 8 months.  Luckily now he's fine but it ws hard work.  So there's fors and against for everything.

I have always used a very well known kennel to export those pups that have not been accompanied by their new owners.

I would think if I was ever in the situation of exportng a pup I would have someone fly with wether it be myself, the new owners or a friend of someone who would be willing :)

Sam,

I hope that the puppy is now with its new owners!!

Poor little mite, i appreciate there is always red tape with these things but sometimes people need to consider the welfare of animals a bit more must have been very scary for the little puppy!

That said it is one of those things that you could have exported pups forever and then it happens to just one, the breeder must have been beside themselves!

well the mystery and problem have been solved. it appears that on the paperwork it said "this is a valuable show dog, please take care" and therein lay the problem:mad: as customes read this on the documentaion and decided it was an "item for the purchasers business or profit" hence it was not allowed to be released until certain fees had been paid:mad: A very confused dazed pup was eventually released today to its new owner.

[i"this is a valuable show dog, please take care" and therein lay the problem as customes read this on the documentaion and decided it was an "item for the purchasers business or profit" hence ]

Oh dear, glad that you posted this though Sam, goes to show if you write the wrong thing, it can cause all sorts of trouble.

Anyone with half a brain though should have realised that as much as the breeder may say it is a valuable show dog, only time would tell if it were, being only a pup. ;-)

But the owner should also have realised that all dogs will be treated exactly the same during transportation and the cost and future potential of the pup would make no difference. (maybe she wrote that to show off to the new owners???) Words are always getting us into trouble.

What a mess up, glad the pup is now with it's owner. :-)
