I've just heard the other night there the naturediet factory has been closed down due to foot and mouth and the blue toung problems etc etc so stock will be abit slow.  PAH will be effected by this and therefore it's adviseable to either stock up a couple of extra weeks worth or find a tempory solution in either natures menu or the wainwrights stuff thats simlar

Please on-one shoot the messenger.  This is just what I have learnt from PAH so thought I would warn you all before you can't find anythign to feed your dog :)

Hi there

Thanks for letting us know, i know a friend whose dog will only eat this so i'd better let her know just in case.
- By bevb [gb] Date 01.10.07 12:00 UTC
Thanks for letting me know, its all i can feed my dog as he reacts to everything else.
- By bevb [gb] Date 01.10.07 12:06 UTC
OK stop the panic.  I have just phoned naturediet as I was worried about feeding my dog without it, they said its not true at all.  They did have a problem getting thier supplies in due to the foot and mouth outbreak but they are now catching up with all orders and it should soon be back to normal and PAH should be back on normal delieveries.
- By ice_queen Date 01.10.07 21:48 UTC
PAH should be but it will be a couple of weeks.  This is not the first time PAH have had problems getting in nature diet.  I'm just saying it from inside the company that sells the product, although  might be better to get it straight from nature diet themselves.  Can't argue with HQ :)  plus PAH do have extra quatities of the wainwrights wet food coming in.

Bev both Natures Menu and Prize choice come from Anglia meat. It is a lot more expensive buying it at the shops than direct from them. :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 02.10.07 07:55 UTC
There is also good old Forthglade http://www.forthglade.com/ vacuum packed meat meals and complete dinners.

Natures Harvest by Berties is IMHO superior product to Naturediet, with an easy to remove top and contains chondrotin, glucosamine, seaweed and salmon oil.  Smells LOVELY
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 04.10.07 18:35 UTC
Where can you get that from tohme?
- By HuskyGal Date 04.10.07 19:30 UTC
I agree with Tohme about Berties
I have been using it while Im moving house and have to deplete my stores of raw food.
(I saw it in Pets at Home in Sevenoaks)
- By ClaireyS Date 04.10.07 22:37 UTC
I have tried this on my boys, fed them it for a week when we went away to an agility show, they are used to raw and loved this the same - and were fine on it !!  I got mine at a champ show, they arent at all champ shows but ive seen them at a few.  You get a better price at shows too, I think I paid 50p per packet.

Hi Tohme
I have been looking for another food as I can no longer stand the smell and look of Nature Diet. My arthritic corgi is on Seraquin and 1000mgs of fish oil per day - would giving him Berties mean he is getting too much fish oil ?

I'll ask the vet also but I know your nutritional knowledge is pretty good.

recently tried this with my boys and they loved it.  PAH do it but I thnk it is about 74p per tray, would be interested if anyone knows of anywhere else cheaper to get it.
- By Blue Date 05.10.07 13:04 UTC
74P plus shipping direct from them.

Just had a look at the difference between the lamb in both products.

Oil   7.5%    Protein 11.0%    Fibre 1.8%    Chicken 65%   Rice 21%   this is Berties Lamb

Ingredients  Lamb (min 35%), chicken (min 25%), peas (min 15%), carrots (min 15%), cooked rice (min 10%)
Typical AnalysisMoisture 76%, protein 10%, oil 12%, ash 1.84%, fibre 3.26%, iron 9 mg/kg     This is Natures menu.

What's the other 14% made out of in the Berties Lamb?

This is the Naturediet lamb:

Lamb Min 60%, Brown Rice Min 15%, Carrots Min 8%, Natural Ground Bone, Kelp, Vitamins & Minerals

Protein: 10%
Fibre: 1.5%
Oil: 8%
Ash: 2.5%

I had a look at Natures Harvest a while back and it did seem better to me that Nature diet unless I am looking for different things in the food.   Natures harvest had a lot higher rice content but a lower fat and veg content if I remember right.

What did you prefer about it, often  it is when you use it you see the difference??   some feedback as to reasons :-) please??

I guess it depends what you want for a particular breed.  I personally prefer the higher meat and veg content over rice.   I think Nature menu is 60% meat, 30 % veg and 10% rice typically.

i tried the natures harvest and thought it lookedthe same as forthglade, it has the same trays and everything, just a different label. my dog liked it, but she will eat horse poo. i had to throw some packs awy cos the meat went pink and i ws not sure this was ok!!

Wondered if any of you had tried  ORIGEN..??

it looks really quite a good food. No Grains just main meat and fruit. It is quite expensive but wondered if you do get what you pay for :-)

Ktee has been feeding orijen Blue. She's put a few posts on the board about it.
- By zarah Date 05.10.07 17:47 UTC
I've fed Orijen. It is an excellent food, but a total nightmare to get hold of. Aside from that, the only thing that bothered me about it is that it contains citric acid which is apparently a big no-no when it comes to soaking kibble.
- By tohme Date 09.10.07 04:57 UTC
Impossible to OD on fish oil, PAH do Natures Harvest, the only thing it lacks is bone but for me that is obviously not a problem.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 09.10.07 17:14 UTC
I found your comment about not being able to OD on fish oil rather misleading.  Fish Oil will be very high in vitamin A which is a Fat soluble vitamin and is stored in the body so and an excess can be toxic.

Water soluble vitamins are excreted if more than is needed is taken in.

I had always been warned not to give too much Cod Liver Oil, and I would expect to need to take care with dosing with other fish oils?

> Fish Oil will be very high in vitamin A which is a Fat soluble vitamin and is stored in the body so and an excess can be toxic.

It's cod liver oil you need to watch out for in regards to the VitA. I agree with Tohme, it is almost impossible to OD on regular fish oil.

Always remember to give vitE when giving fish oil. Dogs use the vitamin E (in the body) when they are metabolising omega 3 fatty acids.  If you add fish oil (and thus add extra O3's), you need to give them some extra vitamin E so that they do not deplete their body's stores of vit. E (which could cause a deficiency). Or something to that effect.

Orijen is in IMO the best dry food available at the moment.Well worth the hassle of getting it.Altho a bag lasts us ages as i supplement with so much fresh foods,so i dont feed alot of it.

You can buy natures menu and nature diet in pets at home , 70p a sachet.carton , bit pricey if you are buying seperately but there is a website
www.naturesdiet.co.uk you can go on and order , it works out cheaper the more you order!
- By orjack Date 23.10.07 16:34 UTC
Hi Wells, can you point me to the area on Naturediet web site where you can order direct from the factory as I can't see for the looking? thanks:confused:
