I have a friend who is going to be opening a training school for puppy classes. She wondered if she should expect some busy months and some lean months due to seasonal changes to breeding. I didn't know the answer but knew CD would. Do most breeders aim for a particular season, or most bitches some into season around the same times or is it pretty even year-round?

I would say dog training is needed all year round I have two freinds who run dog schools and they have a long waiting list.
People not only need help with pups but rescue dogs  and pups too so I think your friend could be busy

I find our local ringcraft is busier during the winter months, like from now onwards :) The training school seems to be busy all year round :)

In my breed I think most people prefer to avoid having pups during the busiest part of the show season during the summer.  We do seem to have more pups registered in the first and last quarter than the two middle ones.

Of course the bitches don't always co-operate, but I like to have pup November to March, with December to February for preference.

For me some of this is also to do with less likelihood of neighbour issues over puppies getting vocal, as the daylight hours are shorter.  Also with my breed I have had no problems keeping them warm, but have found hot weather very stressful making Mums and pups upset and also disrupting sleeping and eating patterns.
