I thought it was Frontline that had to be used, to kill fleas and ticks, as well as a wormer for tapeworm? Stronghold doesn't kill ticks, and that's a requirement for entry. The French vet who administered the treatment would surely know what product to use?

From the Defra website page about Pet Passports:

"Due to several queries from people travelling with pets we would like to advise that Stronghold is not a licensed treatment for ticks."

So Stronghold is no good for Pet Passport purposes, and the dog would correctly be refused entry. Frontline for ticks and either Droncit or Dronyal plus for tapeworms is what's needed.

yes my friends dogs were refused entry last night! Vet had used stronghold. now we are unsure if we can get them back if stronghold/droncit cant be used so close together:eek:

Get the dog sprayed with Frontline for the ticks and wait 24 hours. What sort of Droncit was used - injectable, tablet or spot-on? Or hasn't the dog had any tapeworm treatment? Droncit of course isn't a tick treatment.

Although it's not ideal to give so many chemicals all at once, the alternative is waiting in France for three weeks or so for the Stronghold to get out of the system.

no they were given stronghold by the vet....but on arrival at calais were told they should have had droncit. so now thet have had to go 1000 miles back to breeders home!! she is reluctant to give them droncit on top of stronghold but must have them back on the ferry end of this week:confused:

Droncit won't be enough though, because it doesn't cover ticks. They must have Frontline (or another product licenced to kill ticks) as well as the wormer, or they'll be turned away again.
