actually - with the changes to the classification now permitted at Companion shows ( i.e you can now have MP,P Jun, Av Hound/Pastoral/Toy/Utility/Terrier/Working/Gundog, Open and Veteran )- these are becoming a much more attractive proposition for many show people , particularly when bringing out new youngsters. There now seems to be many more of these shows around and with the slow death of the Open show I can see Companion shows taking their place eventually - at the Companion show we went to last weekend, most exhibitors were 'show people' who also showed at Champ and open level. There were perhaps a handful of non show owners and even less crossebreeds/mongrels ( I only counted 5 in the whole show.)
