Has anyone else had trouble with petplan taking ages to sort a claim?  I'm on hold to them at the moment, I sent in a claim in July, it was sent back because it didn't have an official vet stamp - after they told me the chiropractor needed to fill it in and made no mention of a stamp - so I got it stamped and sent it straight back.

I rang them last wednesday to find out what was happening with it, as I needed the money for the boosters I posted about on my other thread.  They said it was completed August 31, and put a chaser on it to get it moving.  48 hours max.  I rang them tuesday - one week max.

Just spoken to the woman again, and the cheque will be printed and posted today or monday, which is great - but too late.  I've already paid out over £100 on the boosters, and have just realised that my account will go overdrawn when BT tries to take their money on sunday, which'll mean they won't get it and I'll get a £50 duff DD charge.

Is it me or have they been really disorganised (not to mention intensely irritating) about this?  If they'd sorted it in a reasonable timeframe not only would I have been able to get the boosters earlier - and not now have to take Opi down south with me - but I wouldn't now be facing a nasty bank charge.  I relaise that isn't their fault but it's something I could do without, and could have avoided if they'd sorted my claim earlier.  I really am angry with them over this, is it worth complaining?

petplan always take ages with my claims but they pay the vet direct so it is actually my vet waiting not me, next time ask your vet if you can do this and then they will chase them up. I have found my petplan is getting far too dear, £48 a month for 2 dogs plus all the excess each time, so i may shop around.

I would personally make a complaint, it isn't good enough to be kept waiting this long for your money back. unfortunately the way it is its he who shouts loudest that gets heard! I would tell them that they will need to pay for your charge!

I was previously with d line and i found them very quick at sorting out claims!

We are now with sainsburys and its much cheaper and excess is much lower plus cover mirrored what we had before!

A reasonable timescale would be a couple of weeks!

I'm not sure who is the body that governs insurance companies but i would tell them that you will be making a complaint directly to that body if they don't put money in your account straight away and cover any charges you have had as a result. they are a big insurance company and won't want a complaint that clearly shows them in a bad light!

i have over 10 hounds insured with them and make claims almost monthly:eek: but never had a problem like yours. Maybe your vet hung on to the claim forms for too long?

I sent the form myself - the only time the vets had it was when I took it in to be stamped, and that took all of 30 seconds.  I didn't leave the form there.

Wow..........not meaning to be rude , but your monthly payments must be like a second mortgage :D :D :D

It does sound like a nightmare but I have to say that all mine are insured with them and I've never had any problem with claims. They even paid out for a very expensive TPLO very quickly!!

When my bitch got referred to her TPLO Petplan were the only insurance company that that particular vet would deal with direct.

Sounds like you have been very unlucky but they need their backsides kicking into touch!!!
