Where can I buy a cart? Just a basic cart for the dog to pull his own food home from the shop etc.
After 3 hours of searching in the net I'm just about to give up!!

It's illegal to use a dog to pull a cart on public land. Dog traction was banned many years ago.

It was banned under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 (see #9). It's been illegal for nearly a century!

Unless Noora is in Scotland - doesn't apply here according to the document linked. We probably have our own law somewhere though :D

I think the Protection of Animals Act was absorbed into the recent Animal Welfare Act - does that apply in Scotland?

From 6 April 2007 in England, and in Wales from 27 March, animal welfare law is being improved.

ETA: The Scottish Parliament passed its own Animal Health and Welfare Act 2006, which applies to the whole of Scotland. More information can be found here.

I was actually asking for a friend, my own doggy is not even in the country yet :) Won't be bringing our old harnesses etc over when she comes to UK then!

But come from Finland where I quite happily carted my dog food home :).
Didn't even think it would be a problem... My dogs used to love doing it!

Do you think this law is still "alive" as I'm sure I've seen dogs with carts...
Maybe the owners just did not know about the law...
What about "scooters" or using your bike to excersise your dog?(in the end the dog is wearing a harness and might pull)

Yes, the law is indeed still 'alive'.

The 'sled' racing (usually with wheeled carts because of the climate!) is done on private land.

Yep I thought that too.  My lot pull me a bit pulling my shopping trolley, it woudl be nice to harness them up and lead them pulling it home.

Their used to be someone round our way that used to have their dogs with the sled carts on normal roads.  I'm almost certain that a few years one of the local news companies filmed them.

They have been filmed here to practicing along the revetment (pavement overlooking beaches), I often saw them there last year, and I have seen them on country roads (very quiet ones) practising too, but know nothing about the sport or the laws so cannot comment there.
