Topic Dog Boards / General / Disappointing calendar :(

I was in PAh earlier, and next year's calendars are in.  EVery year I have a look at the dobe one, just hoping that for once there might be a fawn, or maybe a blue...

So what's on this year's?  The usual blacks, a few reds and... an albino  Yep, that'll help.
- By Goldmali Date 20.09.07 15:36 UTC
The Golden ones are always full of American dogs that looks like a cross between Irish Setters and Rough Collies  and just try finding a Malinois one LOL -last year I failed as Our Dogs no longer stocked it. (But even when they did, all the dogs were working bred and looked nothing like the breed should.)

Can't believe next year's calendars are out already! Then again I have seen advent calendars in Morrison's.......

Hi Marianne,
Have a look on USA ebay.  They're still the working Mals, but better than nothing!

I try to make one each year, if I'm not too busy with work, for the breeder of my Dobe. The first year I had her I took hundreds of photos so made a "Lottie puppy calendar". I always make birthday cards for the pups I bred (I know, call me mad), with their Mum and Sister on, and send Lottie's Sister a B'day card. I haven't got any fawn's or blue's, so can't help you there. I can't believe they've put an albino on there.

I always look at the choccy Lab ones......................but the pictures are normally such awful examples, so I stick with a cheapy from Woollies or WHS  :D

I agree, two years running i have been given the Irish Setter calender for xmas and they are so american they look nothing like the ones over here - I always "donate" them to the raffle at our club show in January ;)

you cant beat a good Robbie Williams calendar

Last year I made my own calendar with twelve photos of Roxy for my mum and I.  It was done online and it's ace.  Looks like the shop bought ones, but with nicer photos! :D  In fact, my mum's cousin was in her house the other day and said that the dog on the calendar looked very like Roxy.  Funny that! :D :D

:d :d  You should see the Pomeranian ones, yet again they are photo's of American dogs they don't look like the breed and the colours on many of them aren't even in the breed standard!!

You have to remember these ones sold in PAH aswell as card shops, stalls at dog shows etc etc etc are all american.  (Hence why always find an aussie one and never an Irish Red and White one!!!)

One of the red and  white setter breed clubs make their own to sell, well they are professionally done so we don't miss out.  Seems very popular now with breed clubs and the guy we had do ours has done it for a couple of other breeds aswell, all good quality :)

I always try to get a breed calander from a breed club - if my own aren't doing one i will try and get one for a I breed I like (the last 2 years i have had a malamute one).

The ones produced by breed clubs tend to plough any profits made back into breed rescue so that way I get to help with that too.  Certainly more better than a mass produced commercial calender - which of my own breeds vallhunds and German Spitz don't seem to exist anyway!

Perhaps it's time for a Champdogs Calendar?  Very marketable I should think!

We could use the winning pictures of the competition we did a while back.

I get mine from the breed club..people send in the pics and at a show they put them all out and then anyone can vote for the favorites to select the winning pics.   I also have a really fantastic  calendar from an online board where we submit pics and then vote on them for each month .  and the ones not winning are used as little pics on some of the dates and around the side., It looks great. They even include the pet names of the dogs and all profits go towards a breed charity we all voted for.

You just need the people with the right skills to volunteer to put in all the hard graft.  And it probably works better for a breed than a mixed breed site because most people love a specific breed rather than all breeds!  Even then they may like specific colourings or types within that breed rather than all the variety within the breed.

The calender our breed club sells is an awful american one with not even good american dogs in it, I wish I coudl persuade them to get one done for our breed using poictures from members on a photo competition basis as they do with the Keeshond club.

People pay a £1 or whatever to enter their photos and then the committte choose one for each month.  People take soem scrummy ones with pups in bakets and flowers etc.

Our club just gets people to send photo's in and then they are chosen by whoever is doing the calender.  This year my Dad did it and for some of the photo's we got friends who liked dogs but wern't doggy people (if you know what I mean) to choose some and this year the calender has already sold 50!  It's only september and due to the £ to the $ the american's haven't been buying them as it's so expensive for them.  Can't blame them.

My auntie bought me a bichon calendar for Christmas last year and the pictures are awful! All except two of the dogs are either, majorly over grown so you can't see their faces, badly tear stained (could have been trimmed off!!) or bright pink feet!!
I only put it up when Auntie comes round!!

i was looking at calendars in Borders the pther day, and like chocomolly says, the choccy lab ones look naff. I tend to get a lab one from my gran every year, and she only gets the cheapy one's, and they're much better. Some look a bit american (which seems to be a bit of a theme going on the previous posts), but they're better. I had one made for my friend last year from photobox-they were pics of her dog (as he tends to lurk at my house a lot), and it looked good. Calendar Club tend to do some nice ones, but i've not looked at the lab ones.

We missed the deadline for sending in pics for my breed calender, due to pups being too small to get a good shot of the litter!! :D :D
This time we are going to enter the pic of all six pups sitting on my sofa!!! Haven't seen next years calender yet, but do know that some of the dogs that are going to be in it!

Large Munsterlanders are lucky to have 2 people (Mother & daughter) who have produced several different calendars over the past couple of years - I'm involved in the 'foreign' dog LM calendar - I go scouring the world for LM photos.  Then there's the LM rescue supporters calendar where people who support rescue pay for a page and then the rescue dogs calendar  - full of rescued LM's.   And also LM Christmas cards too, several different packs of differing designs.    All proceeds get split between LM rescue & the AHT.

GSD ones are usually rubbish as well I,m going to try the breed club always seem to have trouble getting a good birthday card with a Shepherd on as well there always seem to be plenty of long coated dogs on cards but all my friends in the breed have normal coated dogs and its really hard trying not to duplicate the card you sent the year before.

or xmas cards why not try starprint?
