i had a beautiful litter  but only 2 bitches  which were very nice but not quite the wow factor for showing ,but there is a dog puppy who looks very promising.Thing is would i be asking for trouble keeping him as his father who i show and he,s only 2 is doing very well at the shows .Does anyone on c/dogs keep father and son together without to much trouble?is there any hard/fast rules i should be setting into place   NOW.     The pup is 8 weeks old so knowing his dad it will be a few weeks yet before they will both be together and that we do slowly  and found it the best way. As this is what we did with his much younger half sister ,because he,s unsure of them  as pups .Also although there is a bitch in the pack(his mum) she is getting spayed this week coming

I think breed plays the most major factor, and then individuals.  I

f your breed is the one I think you have the ones I have known have been quite dominant with their own sex, so you could have problems, especially as you have bitches too. 

If you have kennels then if the worst comes top worst, then you may be able to do it with rationing them to different times in the house like many people do.

Definitely depends on the breed. I've had father and son borzois with no problems whatsoever, I've also had 4 male zois living together with no problems, but then hounds are known for this :) A friend with kerry blues had to rehome a young male as her older dog never took to it at all, they fought several times a day over everything.. if one got patted, if one looked at the other, if one bumped into the other etc

We have father and son Mastiff,the only time we really have to keep them apart is when the girls are coming into season,we've never actually had a problem,but just thought it a sensible precaution,ours live indoors so those tall stair gate thingies go up,which works well for us.

Most gundogs are easy to keep with same sex.  We have two males in our house with 4 bitches (2 speyed) and they get on fine.  Season's can cause abit of problems and we just ave to be careful.  tey have had afew punctup's in the past but most of those our fault (pushing one dog out the way and going into the other dog whilst off gaurd etc) but they will both hapily get in a cage together and use eachother as a pillow no problems :)

My Grandparents had aso always kepts two boys with a similar number of bitches and they were always fine (boxers and a boxer and a red and white setter) never any probelms untill they brought an 8 month old dog into the house and they then got problems, which I still think is down to bringing an older pup in rather then an 8 week old pup.

Also am I right in thinking you only have one bitch who will be speyed?  therefore you won't have any problems with seasons?

Personally I do like to keep more bitches then dog is I'm keeping both sex's, just a good way to make it work IMO :)

My girl has just had a litter,   and have promised 1 girl to somone that has been waiting 18 months...I kept a dog and bitch from my last litter and have no trouble with the dog getting on with his father...May do the same with this litter yet
