after a season, my border collie has had her first season, and it is now two months after the season and she is so nasty with my other dogs, she will attack them for no reason, they just have to be walking by her and look in her direction and she will fly at them and really go in for them, she is at the moment muzzled to stop this happening, wondering if getting her spayed would help this, before this she was a pleasent dog to live with, and never a cross word between any of them,

It could well be that she's brewing a phantom pregnancy and is feeling hormonal and rotten.

Sounds like a real phantom to me.  Is she taking to her bed and guarding objects?

I would take away all comfort items, and take her for more walks, not allowing her to mope.  the phantom should subside once she gets -past the stage where pups would have been born.

with my own bitches I often find them down and quiet after a season but never nasty.

Has she any discharge or signs of ill health.  Is she drinking more than normal, as of course Pyometra (womb infection) is always a possibility.

no she is not guarding anything no phantom pregggy as had my old bitch do that before, for example she is lying on the floor or sitting watching you know the collie look at the other dogs, and then if one of the other dogs looks her way she will fly at them and grab them and shake them, i don't know if she is trying to become up the pecking order of the pack , she only tries it on with the young males two of them 15 months old each of them, she has not tried it with my 4 year old chinese crested she would not dare ,and would not challenge my old collie who is 5 years old, he has put her in her place last night she stood and showed her teeth at him and he challenged her and she backed down, as for exercise, 5.30 am every morning an hours blast along the beach, she has an hours training agility every afternoon, and then at night we have flyball or more agility, if we do not have a training session in the afternoon, we are back down the beach swimming or ball chasing so she is quite busy
so i will keep an eye on her and see how she progresses, but the dogs she is having a pop at are much smaller than her and she will do some damage if she keeps going

Guarding toys doesn't define a phantom pregnancy! ;) That would be an extreme symptom, but any milk production at all is normal after every season, and is one of the symptoms. Her hormones aren't yet settled back to normal after her season so don't expect her pre-season puppy-behaviour back yet.

However it could be that she is now demonstrating her natural adult behaviour, and this might be the character you'll have to live with.

The fact she is having a pop at males makes me think it is season related, either she still thinks they want to mate her and wants none of it, or she has soem discharge and infection which is makeing the males more aware of her which she doesn't like?

Fortunately I ahve only ever owned one breed at a tiem so minor tiffs and rearrangement of status is not a problem.

She is now becoming an adult and may well want a higher place in the pack than she has had as a pup.
