Hi Everyone, i hope some one can shed some light on a problem i have :confused: Jack is a 2 year old GSD and has started to pee in the kitchen at night, this is the second period of time he has done this. The first time he started this i took him to the vets to have him checked over and everything was ok.  The vet suggested we limit his drinking water at night and after about a week the problem was sorted to the stage where his bowl was down all the time.  About 4 weeks ago he started again totally out of the blue, so i started the water limit again but he still did, i've been getting up in the night to let him out and he does pee and gets loads of praise. .this morning i could have sat down and cried, after getting up 3 or 4 time with him in the night, once because he just wanted to go out:rolleyes: He had peed on the floor, not alot i must admit but it was there. I'm at a lost as what to next. i've had him back to the vets again and everything is ok. He only does this at night never during the day even when we go out for a few hours.

Any advice would gratefully recieved, the bags under my eyes are so big now i could hold a weeks shopping in them:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd go back to the vets. The only time an adult dog of mine has done this he had a kidney infection. Its certainly not normal for my dogs to want to pee 3 or 4 times through the night, I doubt very much they'd even go outside.

Other than that is something upsetting him? Has anything changed at home, new dog, new person, is a noise outside? I'd also make sure to wash the area really thoroughly with biological soap powder.

Would certainly agree with making sure the area is thoroughly cleaned, I use the stuff out of PAH , normal floor cleaner, bleach etc won't remove the scent so he may keep marking the same spots. I've heard that biological powder works as Jane G says  but it makes my floor dangerously slippy so I don't use it. :( I've had older dogs doing this if another dog has been in the house, but it certainly doesn't seem normal if you are getting up to let him out and he is still doing it. Maybe he has just got into a bad habit?

Like the others have said I would get him to the vet for a check up. As something else to consider is there a bitch in season anywhere near? I have a bitch in season at the moment and I also have an entire male in the household. He is peeing everywhere, though not in the house thankfully. ;)

Thanks for your replies, I've booked him in for Thursday to see the vet again.  I clean the kitchen flloor with that stuff for PAH but it does'nt make any differents all that i have is a lovely clean floor every day!!   Nothing has changed at home but there's a new dog across the road but that could'nt affect him, could it??  Jack has been castrated.  I did some thinking last night as you do and the thought did cross my mind that it could be a bad habit, so i moved his bed into the middle of the kitchen floor where he goes and got up with him at 2.30am.(my idea not his, but he did have a pee and a poo) Got up this morning as normal and there was no pee.  So happy:cool::cool: Might not get up in the night tonight just to see what happens!!!

Thanks once again

Before we moved, my male dogs all peed in the kitchen during the night, in particular on their beds. There was a dog next door they could hear. After we moved, where we now have no other dogs nearby, they don't pee indoors at all. I'm convinced in my case it was a question of the dog next door making them mark.

I agree with the others, you need to know if the problem is physical (and he needs to go)or emotional (he wants to mark).
