The ones that 'patrol' around our village are next to useless :rolleyes:

We have an issue about two people that park there cars down the lane and insist on causing access problems for us at the end and the bin men etc on regular occasions. At the weekend it was particularily bad and getting out the lane was extremely difficult with only a few inches each side. On the way back I saw the PCO's getting out their van so stopped and asked them if they could go and sort it out. The first response was sorry as there are no lines there was nothing they could do . I questioned what would happen if we had a fire how would the Fire Engine get to us

She then said of yes I suppose that is an issue. I asked her to go and see them but she said because it wasn't a hugh priority crime I had to call the 0845 number and they would log a call and they would send a unit out in the next few days :mad:

Useless

Really, it depends on what powers they actually have, and what offences are considered to have been committed.

If I were you, I would have a chat with a Police Officer at the local police station, see what they can advise.

The ones around here are useless as well! considering that Crewe has a high crime rate and that on every shopping trip there i have seen drugs being dealt openly and drunks acosting people and also its a no go zone at night!
i recieved a phone call that went something like this (my son is tiny at 12 years old,has never been in trouble and loves helping all our neighbours out!)
community officer: is that Michele jones?
me:yes
co; i am ??? ???? community officer in crewe!
me: ok what can i do for you?
co; i have your son Ben here
me; oh my god is he all right
co; he is in trouble we found him up a tree!!!
me; ok (after a silence in which i thought someone was going to say its a wind up!)
co; he could have broken a branch this is very serious!!!!!!
me; did he break the tree? was he hanging off branches?
co; no but he could have done! He has a bad attitude!
me; so he hasnt damaged anything and noone is injured?
co; no but i am reporting him to the asbo officer who will want to see him tomorrow
me; i am busy tomorrow
co;what?
me;never mind, can you send him home please so i can talk to him
co; i will let him off this time but if it happens again he will be in big trouble!

so Ben came home and he told me what actually happened

he was sat up an old tree talking to a couple of other boys also in the tree
the CO came over and shouted at him to get down
he did as he was told although the others stayed in the tree!
they asked him his name address etc
he reeled it off
the co turned to her partner and said he is lying! Ben objected to this and reeled off his phone number and said ask my mum! she said you have a bad attitude he said he didnt he just objected to being called a liar! to which he was told if he carried on climbing trees he would get an ASBO!
they asked him why he was in Crewe when he lived in Nantwich! he said he was with friends!they told him to get on his bike and never come back!
now i know that trees are in decline but i have seen this tree and its huge and old no damage on the tree just years of use as a youth meeting place!
they should be dealing with the drugs and criminals first before hassling a child who has never been in trouble before and gave all the info they wanted!
Ben is now known as the ASBO kid! all the elderly people around here love him and also call him by his new nickname! (whilst smiling!)

Pathetic. They need a bomb up the bleepppp:eek::eek:

I'd complain, in writing, to the Officer In Charge, Complaints and Discipline Dept, at the HQ of whatever force your area is in. Do not go local. Abuse of powers, at the very least.

Have to admit that we had a very good experience last year with our local lady :) We had had bad problems with youths riding motorbikes and quadbikes in the fields next to our house (on public footpaths). She was excellent - liaised with the local council, the charity that owns the field immediately next to our house and the family of the main culprits and got it all sorted - haven't seen any this year at all :) :)

We got a new one last year and she is great she has confiscated 200 of those mini motorbikes from kids riding them on the road, there is a huge problem with people working in town parking on residential areas they park on corners across peoples drive and are really inconsiderate she has now fixed that with giving them fines. She has really helped to improve the area now if we could get her to sort out the drunks at the weekend it would be great.

Just had an email from the Quality of Service Unit saying they will investigate why the officer concerned didn't take up my complaint :)

Helpful and good service from them in this area.  Like everything, as good as the weakest link perhaps?

I think a lot of it is down to the life experience of the officer concerned, and how well they have learned the training. We have one who is an ex special constable of some 25 yrs, a fantastic special who has a lot of experience with dealing with people, and she is fantastic knows her powers well and how to incorperate them into her daily duty. Also an older lady who has life experience and can talk and deal with people. this makes all the difference in my mind. Some have very little idea of how to cope with people from all walks of life, and maybe dont know how to incorperate their powers. I think they should spend a good amount of time with the regular police, on all shifts, in the same way as a probationary constable, to 'learn the ropes' and have a longer training period before they go out. i think lack of experience causes a lot of problems, and until the CSO's are well established there are few 'older ones' to teach and to learn from.

Still think its a cheap way to add to numbers, after all they are doing what the old community beat bobby did, but he had full powers. They don't.

Just had an email from the Quality of Service Unit saying they will investigate why the officer concerned didn't take up my complaint

The police turned up at 10 pm last night and asked if the problem had been sorted about the parking  They said oh you look although you are about to go to bed  Not hard to guess since I was in my dressing gown  They then called the girls lovely boys so shoved them out the door and thanked them for their time
