I copied the lovely liver cake recipe used for baiting ...but today I noticed Tesco had lambs kidneys on offer ..half price ...can you do the same cake with those?
:)
Melody

My friend was buying liver and got those by mistake. She boiled them, and they look like little fetuses, but the dogs liked them as much as the liver, so it has gone in to a tub with liver and in the freezer!

Theres a funny thing. None of my dogs will touch liver or any kind of offal. I tried making a liver cake for Floyd once, I think Jacquie gave me the recipie if I remember right but he turned his nose right up at it and the whole lot went in the bin. I use chicken for baiting now which seems popular. I once used milky bar buttons because they love them but trouble is I love them as well and I ended up eating them in the ring. Dogs looked very alert though, wondering why the hell I was eating their bait. :D

lol Jayne :D
No chance of me trying out the liver cake I can tell you!!

Yes kidneys work the same as liver and if anything dont smell as bad, heart wont work in the cake though but the dogs like it sliced thin and cooked to a crisp.
Mine love liver or should I say offal cake but I can also show them with carrots and yes I have a nibble which I would not do with offal yuk. Have used oranges too.

Please, please, please tell me that you didn't mean that 'you' eat liver raw.
Tell me that I have misunderstood. I think I will have to go to bed now to stop me imagining this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I didn't get it wrong, how did you discover that you could?????????????
Yours quesily,

Hi sarah, I had a friend who used to get very anemic (sp) each time of the month, and her task on each "first" day, was to eat a couple of slices of raw liver, on Drs instructions. Yuck yuck and double yuck. :(

lol - no you read it right. Actually it tastes exactly the same as cooked but the texture is far nicer, not rubbery at all :) I found I could by just trying some when I was cutting it up as I eat steaks very very rare.
As the saying goes 'Don't knock it till you've tried it' - it's not as revolting as it sounds. :)
But kidneys :( - now there's a different story - YUK!!!!!!!! :(

I'm with Lara, I like raw liver. I prefer the texture of raw and find the cooked liver too gtranular and less flavoursome, but in deference to my hubby's queazy tummy, I 'singe' the outside slightly so that he can pretend I have cooked it!

Cava's quite partial to sultanas

Anne,
Sorry to be so negative, but there is a thing called grape poisoning in dogs, it is dangerous so you need to be careful to limit Cava's intake of sultanas

Don't be daft you aren't being negative just helpful. Thankfully I don't use them often but do put them in his fruit an veg mix for his raw food diet, will stop
Thanks for telling me

Some dogs have been known to be made ill by sultanas and grapes whereas other dogs get on just fine with them. It's a bit like chocolate. As long as you don't go over the top and stop as soon as you see any odd re-action in your dog, a few grapes, sultanas or occasional chocolate should be OK. It's like many things in life what suits one does not suit another and to some it can be deadly.
One of my mum's cairns used to love grapes. She would play with one for hours:D just the right size for her to throw all over the place before finally eating it. She lived to a good old age of 15, and had the occasional chocolate too. Her favourite thing of all though, if you remember them, was those blackcurrant lollies we used to get. She would go nuts for one of those:

Pam,
Toby does the same as your mum's dog with grapes. It's hilarious to watch. I'm always surprised he doesn't burst them but I didn't know there was such a thing as grape poisoning. See, there's another thing I've learned from this board and I'll be careful in future.
Other things Toby plays with, but he won't eat them, are Jelly Babies and Jelly Beans.
