I have a really nice chilli plant that is covered in ripe red chillies. Does anyone know how is the best way to store them, possibly in oil or drying them ?

I've frozen them quite successfully :)

I freeze mine all the time. I usually roast them over a flame first as you can't roast defrosted chilies. Large ones that require roasting, skinning and seeding I prepare before freezing too.

We put some in vinegar, and dry the others. Yummy! (And you can plant the seeds of the dried ones next year :))

Do you put them in malt vinegar or white wine vinegar, and how do you dry them ? Is it best to hang them in a warm dry place like you would with herbs?
They are only the small chillies, about 1-2 inches long, but they are quite hot and a little goes a long way!

The vinegar looks quite pale so it's probably white vinegar - it usually depends what we have enough of! And I dried them in the airing cupboard.

Is this an indoor plant or are they grown outdoors?

As you can tell by my question I'm not a gardener, but I fancy a chilli plant since reading this!

You can do either but only outdoors in the warm weather ;) :D

Mine has been in the greenhouse this summer. I bought it from the veg section of our local nursery when it was about 2" tall. It's now about 18" tall and 12" wide. Last year I put the plant I had out for most of the summer, but then let it die off when the chillies had been picked.
I've since found out that chilli plants are perennial so hopefully if I bring this plant inside the house for the winter I might manage to get it to survive with a bit of luck!
By the way it's really attractive when it's covered in red chillies and so easy to grow.
