I live now in Holland, but only for a few years, I am thinking of buying a dog in this country. I travel back to England quite frequently by air, and wondered if anyone could tell me is it possible to do this with a dog, and is it expensive. Also, when I move back to England in a few years, would it be straight forward, or would the dog have to spend time in quarantine. Could anyone tell me where I can find infromation on this. Since the Netherlands is part of the EU, you can take advantage of the "Pet Passport" program. Basically, you have your rabies vaccination done. A couple of months later, your vet takes blood, submits it to an "official lab", if it comes back negative for rabies, your dog can travel into the UK six months later without quarantine.

As long as your rabies boosters are on time, you can take as much time as you want to go to the UK. Just don't go over that year mark for the boosters. :) I'm having Titre testing done next month so that in a year, if we move to the UK, we're clear on our dogs.

Hi, just to add to info. already given, apart from rabies shots & blood test the dog also needs to be mircochipped, and wormed by a vet within 24 hours (I think) of entering the Uk, with a certificate signed by the Vet to confirm treatment. At the moment the Pet passport scheme is very limited in respect to the points of entry - at the moment, only Heathrow Airport, and at the ports at Dover & Harwich. You can fly you dog on the same plane, but not all airlines allow the carrieage of dogs, and those that do only permit them to be transported as cargo, not in the passenger cabin.

You probably know already - but be sure the dog you choose is permitted in the UK, and also check with the airline. Some are reviewing their policies on carrying dogs since this happened to an American airline.

My question, that I haven't been able to find anywhere yet is.......how did the dog get out of his crate in the first place?????
Did he chew it up, was not fastened correctly or what? Anyone know???

What I wonder about is how they have managed to transport wild and dangerous beasts like tigers etc.. from zoo to zoo in crates but don't appear to have anything strong enough to contain a dog! :rolleyes:
