A lovely thing happened to us yesterday.

My step daughter's boyfriend emailed and asked if OH was around as he needed to speak to him before Saturday, without step daughter being around.  So what would all you guys think??  Well naturally I thought it was to ask for her hand in marriage - being the eternal romantic.

And it was!!!  He is going to propose on Saturday but wanted to do the right thing by asking her Dad first.  He has the ring and the restaurant booked and it is their 2nd anniversary when they first met  :) :) :)

We are delighted and need to start saving as she has said she doesn't want a long engagement.......... Just hope she says Yes....

Wonderful :) :) Congratulations to you all :) :) My son became engaged in April after asking his future FIL for his permission :) Future DIL had no idea (they had gone to visit her parents for the weekend) :) :) He was 23 and not really the romantic sort, but felt that it was just the right thing to do :D :D :D

Let us know the final outcome!

Great news :-) I am old fashioned and love it all done properly.

Oh so happy she said 'yes'.  Like the others say, start your planning, we've had a wedding this year on 28th July and I left it far too late for the outfit, go now and have a look at what kind of thing you want, I found my outfit buying the most stressful.

Golly, that is quite short notice these days - my son has his booked already for July 2009 :D :D :D A lot of the venues that they wanted were already fully booked for Saturdays next year

What are you planning on wearing ?? Any ideas yet ??? I haven't got a clue - I don't really like dressing up and am dreading the photos already :D :D :D

It is short notice, she said 'why wait'?
There are a couple of Saturday's free at the venue she has chosen, so we will know which date at the weekend :) I'm quite excited.

I'll keep you posted on what I'll be wearing, she wants the 3 Mums to be coordinated  (3 mum's as in her Mum, grooms Mum and me her step Mum).  And she was hoping for a black and white theme, but not sure that black and white suits many people - and we don't want to look like waitresses - I think she might be flexible on the colour scheme as I did mention the waitress scenario and it started her thinking.....

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 10.09.07 16:36 UTC
I agree, why wait? If the venue's available then go for it! Hubby asked me to marry him in the February (no, not Valentine's Day!) and we got married in the October. If there's too long a wait then I think there's a risk of tensions flaring and it becoming more stressful and less fun. Good for her! :)

Son and future DIL can't get married until 2009 anyway because he won't have finished studying/ have a job until then :D :D :D They will only be 25 then anyway. They have been together for over 3 years already, so no rush :D :D I also got married in a rush - three months :D :D But had no problems fixing a venue in those days. Now it just seems very difficult in some areas (unless you are prepared to get married on a week-day :( )
