Just been reading the post on caravanning, but has anyone had any dealing with motorhomes.  We have been thinking of hiring one for two weeks and touring round Scotland next year with the dogs but we have been quoted £1600 for two weeks, which seems quite a lot.
Does anyone know of anywhere reasonably priced or any other thoughts on motorhomes.

Did you buy it brand new or buy an older model.  We have looked at buying an older one but are worried about it breaking down.

We decided to buy brand new as the 'nearly new' ones weren't much cheaper as they hold their price.  It is important, though, to make sure that you get the lay-out suitable for you personally.  The first one we bought 3 years ago, didn't have a back lounge and we found that we were sitting upright all the time....not good when you are getting older!!!  If you opt for second hand, you can sometimes get a bargain if you can get the lay-out you want.

When we used to camp a lot in France we were envious of the people with motorhomes - no putting tents up in the rain :D :D What did bother us was that if an awning was used it would have to be taken down everytime that you went anywhere etc Also they are often quite big and lots of the villages that we visited had very narrow streets and difficult parking. I can see that they are marvellous in the wide open spaces of USA or Canada. Also, don't they take up a lot of space when they are not being used ?? Are my views of them totally wrong ? :D :D :D

We have a little tent not an awning which means that you can drive off and explore leaving it behind with all the wet weather gear, tables and chairs etc. inside.  There is a drawback when you want to explore little villages in this country in that often the parking is difficult and the roads are narrow.  However, you change your holidays accordingly and just stay a few days in each place then move on, you can be up and off in minutes in a motorhome.  I am trying to persuade my husband to have a towbar fitted to the back of our motorhome to tow my little car (a Peugeot 107) which would be the ideal solution, however, I am not succeeding at the moment!  :)

There was something about motorhomes on the television recently. They had an enormous one that actually had a mini-garage at the rear containing a SmartCar :D :D It also had expanding sides :D :D :D Can't remember how much it cost tho'

I see a lot with a scooter on the back.

I have seen motor homes where the home part actually could be separated and you drove off in the truck part.

Here is one for anyone looking :-)  had to post this has I thought they had their set up well done, even a wee smart car being towed for when they arrive :-)

My Dad has one that has 'slide outs'. One side of the bedroom and one side of the living room to give loads more space.

It is absolutely gorgeous but they go away in it for 6 weeks every summer plus extra holidays and to warrant paying that much I think you probably need to use it that much!! I couldn't warrant one!!:-D
